Using MFP to track strength training?

I am not new to MFP, but I am new to strength training. I have done almost nothing but elliptical for several months and it's time to branch out. I tried logging the few arm/dumbell exercises that I did this morning, but the MFP application seems clumsy. When go to the database to look at a list of exercises (to try to guess what to call things), I am not really seeing strength exercises in there. But when I try to enter one, I do find them, it's just hard to search.

Then once I enter, what does MFP do with the info? It doesn't give you a nice report like for calories burned, etc.

Do most people log strength training here, or off line? I'd like to track my progress, but not sure the best way to do it. Tips, please? Thanks!

    hi ellen,

in the cardio section there is an option for 'strength training / weight lifting'. its easier to use that and just log exercises in notes then you can copy & paste from another day when you did the same thing. Its generally low cal burn so i dont count mine, around 100 for 1/2 hour.

i track mine on my gym program card rather than on here, as i need to take it round the gym so i know how much weight to use, and what order to do the exercises, so i ust collect those up each month.

That is also how I do it, but MFP isn't great at calculating weight training due to so many factors. (weight used, breaks between sets, ect). This was the main reason I got a heart rate monitor.

Thanks ladies - I just wasn't sure if I was missing something. I won't bother tracking it under cardio, but I thought it would be nice to have a chart that I can work from and check off as I go. I think I'll do it off line as well. Now to search the internet for some ideas of what to do, as I don't go to a gym. Thanks!

I too do the same thing, I have a heart rate monitor that I wear during my entire workouts and chart that way.
