Taking a day off from the gym in the middle of the week

Hey guys, I have a question. Are there any benefits to taking like a Wednesday off from the gym?
Does my body need that break if I work out 5 times a week?
Do you perform better after a day off?
Or is it better for my body if I take 2 days off in a row (sat and sun).
