Because you should. Do some reading. Learn what it means. Go to the TOOLS tab up above and use the BMR calculator. It has been said that your calories should not dip below this number.............

I personally don't "net" below my BMR, only have 3 pounds to go!0

1351 is mine.
Guessing a combination of my age(36) and my height and lower weight for my height that makes it that low. (5'9 and 126Ibs)0 -
Right now, mine is 1353. I'm 34 years old, 5'2, and around 154 lbs.0

YES! i should have stated "net" also.... thank you (and fantastic work on nearing your goal!!)0 -
I eat at least my BMR....and I get why that's important. But I think MFP should be set so it DOESN'T give users a suggested NET calorie intake that goes below their BMR.
My suggested net calorie intake when I first joined was set at 1200 cal/day. And that was before I lost any weight, and I didn't set it to lose 2lbs/wk either. And that's about 1 small meal below my BMR. So .... I guess I question why MFP is set up the way it is, when you fill out your goals to begin with it makes you figure out your BMR...but then it goes on ahead and gives you a calorie net limit that goes below it?
Doesn't make sense....so I'm glad there are plenty of forum posts encouraging people not to dip below their BMR.0 -

Isn't it the whole eating for your goal weight thing??? I am not sure, but it's just a thought that came to my mind.
My BMR using the MFP calculator is 1,186. I am 32, 5'3" and 107.8lbs0 -

Exactly, that was my thinking. Aren't you supposed to be eating for your goal weight? If you want to weigh 140lbs, you should eat as if you already weigh 140lbs. Thoughts?0 -
^^ as for eating at a BMR set at my goal weight: i'd never thought about this, so i just plugged in the #s (for me, age 34, height 5'2, and ultimate goal weight 125). It said my BMR would set me at 1220 calories. There is no way i could sustain a diet of 1200 calories a day. I feel awful when i eat that little. And the point is that I DON'T HAVE TO EAT THAT LITTLE TO LOSE.
My BMR is around 1350 and i workout almost daily which gives me an extra 250-500 calories to eat. so i can eat up to 1800 calories or so, and STILL lose. Matter of fact, i manually set my calorie goal to 1800. P90X suggests i eat 2500 per day, but i felt that was a bit steep.
