Apartment Gardening?

I really want to try my hand growing some fresh herbs and/or veggies of my own, trouble is: i live in an apartment.

I know growing food can be done in an apartment, but I was just looking for suggestions for things that would work well in that environment. I have a large enough window to give things sunlight, but I'm not sure where to start?

Any help would be appreciated!

I bought a planter and some seeds at Walmart for like 5 bucks, has like 6 different herbs in it...not doing well..but it is there!

Another idea, plant in any old pot but use a UV light intended for reptiles.

I have a tortoise. Before I got him, I killed every plant I looked at. In his enclosure, I can grow anything. I plant seeds, and quite literally within two days I have a jungle on my hands.

Obviously it's not worth the expense if you're doing it for a bit of fun or just a few herbs, but those lights aren't that expensive and are the answer to indoor gardening.

Basil and Rosemary both do very well in pots. There are also some tomatoes that have been cultivated for growing in pots. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! And a UV light is a good idea, because knowing me it would die if i just put it in the windowsill :ohwell:

You could probably grow lettuce in a container too. Do you have outside space? If not, lettuce should do fine on a windowsill!
