Hey Marcus, my name is Sarah. I don't know much about being wheelchair bound or diabetes but I can appreciate having a significant amount of weight to lose. (Fifty pounds would just be scratching the surface for me, lol.) I'm sure you probably have, but have you looked around the internet for exercises/diets for diabetics and people with limited mobility? I might be able to find some links for you. I'll be back. XD Feel free to add me if you'd like someone who will help support you. (I might not be much help with your specific needs but I can cheer like any good fan girl!)

Hey. It's me again. I did a little poking around on the internet and I found some things to share. I think I'm going to start doing the yoga myself! :) I wish you the best of luck. ~Sarah

http://www.livestrong.com/article/150367-paraplegic-workouts/ -you could probably use your hand weights to do these

http://www.livestrong.com/paraplegic-exercises/ - this one actually seemed to have a lot of good links on various things like, exercise equipment, weight lifting, cardio, and balance

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rvg-AXRP_PQ - it looked like most of these could be done from a wheelchair and there were other links on the side

Hi Marcus! do you have access to a physical therapist or anything? they would probably be a great resource to help with exercise. however, good for you to be using the weights and hand bike! good luck on your journey!
  • Sarah, I LOVE the Livestrong page you posted! I also like the exercises listed on SparkPeople. You have to look yourself and see which ones you might be able to do, but they have pictures and demos of all of them, so you can fairly easily figure out which ones might work.
