I don't eat meat, at all; maybe once or twice every three months. I don't keep it in my home, don't cook it, don't know how to cook it, the list goes on; it's the texture, like chewing it forever wigs me out, and I'm not a fan, at all, haha. Anyhow, so that means I must get protein from other sources, and really, the only few I've got are tuna, sunflower seeds, and peanut butter. Now, I would eat seeds all day, every single day, for the rest of my life, but really, they're not the best, when it comes to like, well, let's be frank, pooping. So, I ate all the tuna, which I don't even know if it has any protein really or not, but so anyhow.. Peanut butter.. I want to eat the entire thing, which I know I can't, but at the same time, it is sounding really good. The problem is, I'm running out, and I don't really have tons of money for food, so any ideas? Yes, I coupon, and am capable of saving money, but not for a few more days or so, ya know? So, what else do I eat?

have you tried tvp? (thats textured vegetable protien). meat sub. i get it in the dry crumbled form. add boiling water to rehydrate it. you can add to it pkg. of taco seasoning, or spaghetti sauce mix. I use it in salads and lots of stuff. tastes good too. a pak. cost under 3 dollars and makes alot. probably at least 20 or thirty servings. Bobs red mill is a popular brand, but they carry different brands and stuff in the health food section. btw, beans and rice together are protien, and dont forget eggs.

cottage cheese, greek yogurt, talapia fillets, almond butter
  • Why do you feel like eating an entire jar of peanut butter? Are you craving protein? Cheese has protein. Can you not even stand the texture of lunch meat? It's so thin and can easily be disguised by bread and cheese. Dry beans have a lot of protein. Edamame (soybeans) have 12 grams of protein in 1/2 cup of shelled beans. And they taste pretty good raw (or blanched) on a salad.

Cm, well, tuna is a fish, and I love fish; I'm just talking about steaks and hams and .. -sickface- Noooo!

KL, no, I haven't even heard of that. What is it? I'm allergic to tomatoes, so I'd have to add taco seasoning, which is good, because that is frequently on sale. I'm hoping to win a $500 gift card to Whole Foods - I won a nice healthy food box already; grand prize winner will be announced next Monday. -crosses fingers- That sounds delicious. I can't get on rice; it's just too weird. Eggs, eggs, are great!!

IL, OH! I love cottage cheese, but I'm out right now. ;[ I still have not really tried greek yogurt, but I eat regular yogurt, does that count!? I do eat tilapia; I love fish!

FM, I guess I am. I eat cheese at almost every meal, but someone told me I should track sodium, too, and I swear, I'm over sodium every single day by like a million, even if I try to eat right!! Lunch meat is something I could look into. Soy beans are great! I love them; this is good; I never thought of those. Man, I should be making a grocery list! Beans, I think I'm still working on in general, but I like them refried, haha!

T, yes, it's a fish, which I love. I just don't like all those other ones - chicken and steaks and stuff! Blegh!
  • I'm not a greek yogurt fan at all. :P

Cheese, definitely, in any form. Eggs have quite a bit of protein and get a really terrible reputation for the cholesterol, but my cardiologist assured me it's fine for me to eat them and my cholesterol sucks, so yeah. Tofu, nuts, and beans are also good sources. :)

FWIW, I'm almost always low on my protein %.

  • I'd say just check out the nutritional info conveniently placed on the backside of most food products. There is a breakdown of all the ingredients and nutrients based on a 2,000 calorie diet. Tuna is good for protein as are beans (and they are super cheap too!).
