Welcome to the boards! My back isn't "bad" but I do have problems with it. My best advice is to make sure you stretch a LOT before & after you work out. Be careful with what you do to make sure you don't cause further injury to yourself. Good luck to you!0

Welcome, I'm also from Kentucky. I don't know what kind of bad back you have, but I recommend Pilates and Yoga. It definitley helps build the back muscles, but I would consult a doctor to make sure that Pilates is right for you. Good luck on your journey, we're here for you!!0

Welcome! Try to do a lot of ab/core exercises every other day. A strong core = a strong back!

Hi! Welcome to MFP.
I am sure you will find this to be a great site and very helpful to you in reaching your goals.
I have had lower back issues but I can tell you that losing weight and strengthening my abs has helped with that A LOT. I am careful with how I lift things and how I sit, etc...but am so much stronger now.
And talking to a doctor and maybe a trainer about what is safe to do for a bad back might be helpful just so you don't injure yourself further. If you can do sit-ups and crunches and any "core" exercises, that will help to take the strain off your back by making your abs stronger.
Good luck!!:flowerforyou:

hello and welcome! I lived in kentucky (lexington) for a few years and the food isn't always the healthiest. (mmmmm...biscuits and gravy - yum!) I don't have a bad back, per se, but my neck is definitely screwed up from a bad car assident 6 years ago. If you have a chiropractor (or whichever doctor is treating your condition) I'd ask them what kind of exercises that they'd specifically recommend for you. After all. they'd be the experts.
As for me, I just have to be careful when raising any weights above shoulder level, and I don't hold my neck when doing crunches. I keep my hands crossed on my shoulders mummy-style.
Best of luch to you.0 -
