So despite my daily walking (60 minutes most days or at least 30 minutes of brisk 4.0mph walking) and losing weight my BP is still really high and I'm back on medication.

My doctor has said however that I can continue with my fitness routine and that I wont keel over with a coronary..

I am a bit worried though so I was wondering if a HRM will help me to make sure I'm not over exerting myself especially on the days I walk/run. Nothing says bummer than a coronary on a bike path:(

TIA
Fiona

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. Your HR and your blood pressure are too different things and aren't necessarily related.

For example, when my BP was high enough to need medicine, my normal heart rate was around 72. When i got off the BP meds because my blood pressure went down due to weight loss, my regular heart rate was ... 72.

It's lower now but that's because I exercise a lot, not because of my BP which has stayed the same as the my heart rate has gone down.

There are other reasons to get a HRM though.
