Nuts and avacados and exceeding fat grams

I love to eat avacados, pecans and cashews and it seem on days that I eat them that I go over on my allowable fat. Since these are good fats should I ignore this number? I also almost always exceed my allowable protein on days I work out and drink a protein shake. How is this going to effect me?

Well, according to my nutritionist even if you're eating good fats you can go over. When I first started losing weight, the only fats in my diet were the "good" fats, but I was still instructed to limit them. Even if they are good.......fat is still fat.

Protein is different, especially if you are working out regularly. You need protein to recover your muscles so I tend to use the protein marker on MFP as a baseline for what I should get, rather than a limit for how much I can eat.

I do not follow MFP's ratios.

I get a minimum of 130g protein, a maximum of 150g carbs, and the rest is fat. I eat a *lot* of fat - two+ servings of nuts or nut butters most days, avocado several times a week. If you are meeting your protein needs, there is no reason not to eat plenty of healthy fat. Nuts and avocado are calorie-dense foods, but if it fits your goals, your heart certainly isn't going to suffer from inclusion of plenty of MUFAs.

Depends on what works for your body...i eat a lifestyle that is high in good fats and protiens and low in carbs and sugars...on any given day I eat 60+ grams of fat, 100+ grams of protien and attempt to keep my carbs under 80 grams...

I routinely snack on nuts - in fact it is my mainstay of snacks during my day (mainly raw almonds or pecans - roasting can affect the good fats in the nuts...)

The thing you do want to be careful about is the amount - since they are higher in calories you can easily overeat on them which can be a hinderance if you are looking to loose weight (a good rule of thumb is 1 nut = ~9 calories)...so that said if you are eating them in moderation in regards to your calorie goals i personally would not worry about the fat grams...

Thanks for the info. I also stay away from sugars and limit my carb intake. I eat my pecans raw and I limit myself to about 1/2 cup that I measure out and put in a bowl on the counter to snack on during the day.
