eating well after gallbladder surgery?

I just had my gallbladder removed on Monday and haven't eaten much of anything since Saturday. I'm just not hungry but I know I need to eat.

What should I be eating, exactly? I can't handle anything too fibrous but aside from that, I can handle most anything else. My doctor wants me eating between 800-1000 calories a day (Don't give me grief over this, please. It's doctors orders and medically supervised.)

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I had my gallbladder removed 20+ years ago, so this may be a little hazy.

I remember feeling very icky for 2-3 weeks afterwards and finding it hard to keep anything down, so lived on soup and weetabix for a while. Even now I have to be fairly careful what I eat, too much fatty food or dairy gives me stomach cramps as does too much salad. You'll soon know what you can and can't eat, but even now if I eat the wrong thing I tend to get the squits and it's near enough pure acid, so you might also want to avoid anything too acidic (which is why I can't eat much lettuce, which turns to acid in me).
  • When my husband got his gallbladder out, they told him to eat low fat for a while, then slowly transition back to what he was eating pre-surgery.
  • So basically I should cut back on the fat, dairy, and anything acidic? Thanks. I think I'm gonna try to eat a piece or two of veggie sushi for lunch.

How did you come to the conclusion that it needed to be removed? I have been suffering from horrible abdominal pain, nausea, fatigue, and lack of appetite. OK, the lack of appetite hasn't been too bad since I am looking to lose weight, but it's probably not so great for my health :) My ultrasound and barium swallow were negative, HIDA scan was 41%, and endoscopy was normal. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks to discuss whether or not to keep it. How are you feeling today?
