alcohol question-what's best?

I'm planning to have some drinks with my hubby and his work friends tomorrow night and was just wondering what choices I should make. I don't drink much socially, maybe 2 or 3 times a year and every once in a while I might buy a bottle of wine that will last for months at home. I don't really like beer. I know alcohol is not good to drink if I'm watching calories and carbs and stuff but what are the best choices? Like, cranberry and vodka?

Nurse a glass of white wine and you will be safe. The higher the alcohol content the more sugar and calories. Italian Prosecco is very low alcohol. Good luck.

I've been on a NorCal Margarita kick lately. I think it's the warmer weather :) clear tequila (Espolon is my fave brand, not too pricey either), soda water (just fizzy water), juice of one lime, all on ice and I sprinkle a little sea salt on top. Very simple, you can ask the bartender to make easy. Here's a link to a recipe and some of the why's it is a good choice when you are going to drink. Haven't been able to find all the research to back all the claims (not saying it isn't out there, just haven't run across it yet) I'll stick with it becasue it doesn't make me feel like crap and it's tasty. The recommendation is to drink early so as to not disrupt your sleep.

Thanks for both suggestions. Sapalee, wow! I never even heard of this but thanks for sharing the link...i think I'll ask the bartender for maybe both! :)

Cranberry and Vodka is fine. You really wont blow your diet. Alcohol just kills muscle growth. This is my personal opinion and from personal experience.

Tough call. I like vodka & diet tonic w/ a splash of lime. You could always ask them to put a splash of juice in it to give it a little bit of flavor. I think the earlier you drink it the better and also, you can always dance at the bar if there's dancing (then you can burn some calories.. ;-) ) good luck!

I have recently noticed a trend at resturants - making SKINNY versions of drinks. Most at 110 calories. Ask the bartender what their lighter drinks are? I had a SKINNY Pink Lemonaide from Ruby Tuesday's the other night it was yummy. I saw at Chil's Bar and Grill they had a Skinny Patrone - drink made with a sugar free triplesec that was only 110 calories.

I perfer to drink white wine than red but when I am watching my cals I go for the red because I tend to drink it slower. You may not want to have this at a bar but at home low cal hot chocolate with 1 oz Malibu Coconut rum is to die for and just under 100 cals.:drinker:

If you don't generally drink alcohol why bother? Go with a non-alcoholic drink you enjoy. Drinking is like smoking, it's no longer mandatory.
