I see a lot of posts on here about the importance of strength training... I'm almost at my target weight and do lots of walking/dancing so am fairly fit, I don't have access to a gym but am curious about trying some kind of strength training..my main problem apart from being clueless is that I usually incorporate my excercise into my daily activites (walking to work, walking dog, teaching dance..) and am not sure I will keep at something time has to be set aside for....

and advice gratefully received...

I'm also nearly 49 and although i have lots of stamina I'm probably as weak as a kitten!

    At 49 you're just a kid!

It all comes down to a matter of priorities and time management. Your strength training doesn't need to consist of hours spent grunting and sweating in a gym.

If you do nothing else but a few minutes, three times a week, working on your core (planks, bridges, superman to name a few - lots of great videos on youtube) you will reap noticeable benefits. Toss in some squats, lunges and push ups and you can have a fairly complete full body workout that requires no equipment, no trip to the gym and a very small investment of your time. The hardest part is making a habit of it.

thanks! I will look those up on youtube...

I possibly should have mentioned that I have a long standing knee injury and dodgy ankles from dancing for years and hypermobilty in my wrists and elbows... will this affect what i can do?

You could start with body weight exercises.

Core work probably wouldn't be affected by your physical issues.

Do a google search for body weight routines.
