Foot Injury.. Cardio workout ideas....

I have Plantars Fasciitis and Tarsal Tunnel in my left foot. pretty bad cases... For those who don't know what it is.. Plantars Fasciitis is where the ligament underneath your foot tightens and begins to pull away from the bone. Formally called and thought to be the same as heel spurs.. but not.. and tarsal tunnel is the same as carpal tunnel but only in your ankle. Note.. if you are running or walking a LOT.. good shoes and STRETCHING your feet and ankles before and after are VERY important...
Now.. the question... I need cardio workout idea's as walking for long periods of time are out anymore. I tried spinning but while I feel absolutely no discomfort on the bike, once it's over and I step down, it's like fire is shooting up my leg. Any ideas appreciated...

I'm resurrecting this thread as I was just diagnosed with Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome and can't do my 2 miles a day of walking anymore. Just to pre-empt, I do not own a bike and do not have access to a gym, so no biking or swimming. What can I do at home for cardio? Somehow I dont' think strength training is quite enough...0

You've pre-empted all three main cardio exercises.
What about a rowing machine?0 -
Shadow boxing? I know the Kenpo dvd in p90x gets my heart rate up for sure and while it does involve a little footwork I bet it could be adapted and still retain some cardio benefit.0

What about swimming or using a recumbent bike?
Or, you can do strength training mixed with cardio. Basically -- aim to do 3-4 sets with minimal rest. If you're doing it right, your HR should be in roughly the same zone and you should work up a serious sweat.0 -
Strenght training. Do low weight, high reps.
Rowing is possible.0 -
Swimming? I'm sorry you're in pain.0

I have a foot injury right now, too.
You could try deep water running. To get my heartrate up, I really need the water gloves and weights, though.
Have you tried taping your arches for the plantars fascitis?0 -
I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult but I was not clear enough in my post. I do not have access to a gym or bike nor can I currently afford a gym membership. Therefore swimming, biking and rowing are all not options for me. I was looking for suggestions of things I can do in my living room that will not involve putting weight on my foot as that aggravates the pain and I've been told I'm not allowed to aggravate my foot. I was getting my cardio despite my foot pain by going on two one mile walks spaced throughout the day, but I can't do that anymore and I don't know for how long.
Meanwhile, I will continue to just focus on my strength training and core muscles exercises that I already do in my apartment.
Getting healthy on a tight budget is hard. The food I just had to re-adjust for, but building exercise into my budget is extremely difficult for me. I tried running for a few weeks last year (couch-2-5K) and I think that's how I injured the foot in the first place I LOVE taking walks, but have been limited as to how much my foot could take and apparently only succeeded in making the foot situation worse.0
