Is it possible to get heartburn from water?

I havn'e eaten anything to make me get heartburn, but lately every night I have heartburn before I go to bed. It starts before I lay down, probably an hour or so, gets bad when I lay down, but then goes away.

When I get back up and take Pepto, Im ok, but its so annoying.

Heart burn is usually more related to foods and drink than just water. A lot of times it's because a little stomach acid is getting into your esophagus. You really should check with your doctor if it continues.

I had severe heartburn for 3 years. I was on prescriptions for it, I would pop tums left & right and even did an upper GI for it. A lot of money spent going to the doc for 0 results. I would tell him that I even get it when I only drink water. Here about a year ago I was having a very busy month. I kept thinking I needed to change the filter in my Brita water picture. I didn't get it changed and continued to drink from it. I hadn't realized it but my heartburn had faded. It wasn't until I went to take a few pills and decided to use the water directly from my fridge (which had a new filter in it) BAM!!!! Instint heartburn. It was the filtered water that had been causing it all along. I would also like to say that along with the severe heartburn, I was experiences severe inflamation in my joints. Since I stopped drinking the filtered water, I have very little joint pain. I feel so much better. I am only 36 years old but my husband used to tell me "come on granny" because of my joint pain. Stairs were miserable. Funny how something so simple that you think is good for you can effect your life so horribly.

I only signed onto this site to be able to post this. I hope that many people with the same problem will read this and give it a try. I would have tried it years ago had it even been slightly mentioned. If you can't drink your tap water, buy distilled water. Give it a try it can't hurt anymore than you already do. Hope this helps.

You could have GERD, check with your doctor. You don't want GERD to go uncontrolled as it can lead to more serious issues.

I am having the same issues right now and know it's not my diet. But since I've had my gallbladder removed I tend to get bouts, it just feels like maybe my new active workout routine and increase in water may also be causing it to get worse. Some one here told me to take a teaspoon of ACV every day and I thought it was interesting because I had been every morning for months but that week that my acid reflux got bad I had neglected to take it. So I'm getting back into that routine and hoping to see some improvement. I feel like the lump in my throat is causing air restriction and it's not fun to work out feeling that way.
  • I often get it from water. I can only think that the water is increasing the volume in the stomach and causing the acid to spill back up into the esophagus. I would watch to see how often it happens, and if it is happening consistently then you should talk to your doctor b/c GERD can actually lead to long term damage and even esophageal cancer. I wouldn't drink it for at least an hour or two before lying down, b/c lying down does make it worse. Mine doesn't happen as often now that I have lost weight though:)
