TDEE, BMR, WTF?

Hi all!

Okay, I've been perusing a few threads here and I have a question for everyone.

I've been stuck in a plateau now for about 5 weeks. I swear to god, I've gained and lost the same 3 lbs over and over again.

The topic of eating more to break the plateau has piqued my interest! I currently eat 1550 per day. I calculated my TDEE and it gave me a number of 2567 (less the 20%) = 2053. My BMR is 1856.

So (and forgive me, but I'm mathematically challenged) if I were to bump up my calories to somewhere in between those two numbers, would that be a fairly accurate number to (hopefully) get me over the hump?

All offers of worldly wisdom would be GREATLY appreciated

the 2053 would be a good place to start. Eat that many calories for several weeks and see how it goes, if it still is not working you can adjust from there. When you first up your calories there will be some weight gain ( mainly water ). I suggest staying away from the scale for at least two weeks, to let your body adjust to your new calorie intake.

hope this helps clear some things up, good luck

I've been reading about the BRM numbers and what I took from it was that we should be eating at least that number in calories. I've bumped my intake to 1300-1500 and my BMR number is around 1450. I just started so I won't know if it's working for a few weeks.

Give it a try my guess is that it can't hurt and may get you over that hump.

    ^^^^Good advice!

Everything that I have read about BMR is that you should NOT eat below that number for your NET calories.

Personally, I think we should all burn our scales. (yes-I am still a scale-addict)
