In the South its called Coke.
    As in:
"What kind of coke do you want?"
    "I'll take a Sprite."

EXACTLY! What else would it be? haha

Grew up on the west coast - CA, OR, and WA. Called it pop mostly, sometimes sodapop. Spent 10 years in AZ and now 14 in TX (when the $*%& did THAT happen???) and I mostly call it soda now.

    Weird.

I grew up in North Central Oklahoma and we called it "pop". But then after moving to Texas over 30 years ago, I discovered everyone here calls it either "coke" or "soda". So now I call it "coke". And BTW, I drink way too many diet cokes. Probably my biggest addiction that I'm trying hard to break!

it's soda. everyone who calls it "pop" is wrong. ;)

I went to the popvssoda.com site and looked at WA state. I wondered what some of the "other" categories were and found this:

<1 the only time i use pop is when i pop a cap in someones *kitten* for calling it pop....its soda>
  • In the south it's always a coke or maybe diet coke.

Pop- pittsburgh,pa area. My vote shouldn't really count though because there is an entire Pittsburgh language that is pretty awful.

I usually call it soda, which is weird for the area I live in now. I grew up in Tennessee, and it was always soda, so now I just say dr. pepper, it causes many less headaches. I also have many headaches with my meals. Meals are breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But here in the midwest I've been told it's breakfast, dinner, and this weird meal they call "supper". Someone finally told me it's because they have their biggest meal at noon time growing up on the farm, but I still find it odd and everyone looks at me like I'm from a different planet.

Growing up in the land down-under, we always called it "lemonade", no matter what flavour it was (Coke and Pepsi were the exception - they were always by name). Nowadays, we tend to say "soft-drink".

Another Texan here.... it's always been "coke" to me. You want a coke? What kind? Dr. Pepper for me.

Since being married, I have gotten used to calling it soda. My husband is from South Dakota, and that's what he calls it.

soda. it's even called 'soda' in africa and india, too.
  • It's soda. Pop sounds way too weird. I have a friend from Indiana and she calls it pop. It always takes me a while to realize that she means soda.
