Calorie Intake

I don't feel like a 1200 calorie diet cuts it for me. I'm always hungry at the end of the night. Any suggestions? Should I switch around what I'm eating or up my calorie intake?

  • Not sure what your stats are, or your weight loss goals, but maybe shooting for 1 or 1.5 lbs per week instead of 2, that might be a better place to start (you should get more calories) then make sure to work out too =-) (that also gives you more calories). It might help to get more advice about food if you open your diary. Good luck! =-)

Similar to Miss_September post. Shoot for 1lb per week. Also, I truly believe a calorie is not a calorie. 8 taquitos works out to be 800 calories (was jonesing last night). I can make one hell of meal with lean protein and vegetables and enjoy a beer for the same caloric intake or better and stay "full" much longer. Also, if you are noticing you are hungry at a certain point/time of the day, take a look at what you are eating/doing 2-3 hours prior to that time. You may be cutting yourself short at specific times of the day, or over-eating which could leave you without the calories you want at night. Hope this make sense, and best of luck to you.

Try upping your calories gradually. I don't really believe in 1200 calorie diets. Instead, I eat at least my BMR -- Basal Metabolic Rate -- it's the number of calories a body burns just sitting all day breathing. Yes, this number can be higher (Mine's 1580 -- and my daily calorie limit is 1650) -- but just remember that in order for your body to lose weight and "streamline itself" it needs to be operating in peak condition -- and you need to FEED it.

I discuss this a little bit more in my blog: http://collegecookingandironchefamerica.blogspot.com/2012/03/my-weight-loss-technique.html

Things I do that make me feel less hungry
    1. More meals spread out through day (I eat 6 times a day and stay under 1500 calories)
    2. Increase protein intake
    3. Drinking more water

In the beginning of my weight loss journey, I struggled to make it to 1200 because I was so afraid that I'd gain more weight. Now, I eat around 1250-1600 a day, and I'm losing consistently. I eat every 200-300 calories every 2 hours, as eating frequently is supposed to boost metabolism.
