TL;DR: Need suggestions on a bit higher calorie power foods that isnt junk food

So I've been working out hard. Harder than I have in the past. I, in all honesty, am LOVING what my body is capable of doing. Been boxing, walking (Havent started running yet), biking and all kinds of fun stuff. I have been steadily burning 1k+ Calories. On some days, I'm burning 2k+ calories a day.

Now, here's where the problem kicks in. Before working out and eating healthy, getting those 2k calories would not even be a thought. Pretty sure I can get those down easily in my lunch alone. But since I cut off fast food and eating my own cooked meals, I'm literally struggling with eating more than I am right now. I just cannot eat anymore. I am trying my hardest but I cannot eat anymore without eating outside or eating greesy stuff.

So I guess the question is...what foods would you recommend that're decently high in calories that I can start eating to fuel myself up better!

Thankyou

Edit: Feel free to browse through the diary to suggest foods

Any kind of icecream, peanut butter, OJ, bread, cereal, rice, salsa, potato chips (and no, they don't have to be unhealthy)

Try making up or buying a mix of nuts, seeds and dried fruits. 50gm's is going to give you a good 300ish calories and is ace in Greek yoghurt.

For all foods that have options of no-fat or low-fat, you get the full-fat version. Milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese, ect.
Some of the butters (though working out, probably need decent carb replacement for what you burned) like almond or peanut, ect.
    Calorie dense breads.

And some good meats that have more fat in them, not the super-lean versions.

I would actually suggest that you cut down on the work-outs. Per your diary you are working out for a couple of hours a day at a high intensity. You are actually eating more than 2,000 - it just that you cannot eat enough to fuel all that exercise. Swap out some of the high energy workouts and start weigh training. This would decrease your calorie needs and help in maintaining your lean muscle mass.

Also, as the prior poster suggested, get full fat versions of the foods you are eating,

When you have an apple, put some peanut butter on each slice (soooo good) or have a glass of milk first thing in the morning/evening. Try protein shakes? Any lean meat is great to snack on too!

Avocados! Make yourself some yummy guacamole and put it on everything ~ eggs, sandwiches, dip for veggies. Hell I put it on toast (Ezekial bread) for breakfast quite often!!.....a great source of healthy fat and calories!:flowerforyou:

You can find lots of stuff that is pretty high in calories and other really nice stuff, yet is hardly noticeable. Things like flax seeds, chia, etc. Those things are usually full of nice stuff like omega 3, etc. There was a really nice post on smallbites about that, but can't find it atm...

So yeah, check for Nuts or Seeds or other small additives that can jack the calorie meter some, and bring lots of good stuff along too!

Nuts nuts nuts! The high-fat ones too, macadamias are my fave, and walnuts, brazil nuts and pine nuts are high in Omega-3 fatty acids. Sprinkle them on salads, grab handfuls for snacks, make your own energy bars with protein powder and peanut butter as a base, and add some nuts in the mix.

I have the same problem some days too, and not because I'm working out. Just because I don't have the appetite! So thanks for posting!

Thanks for the suggestions from everyone too! I can't do any of the nuts (severe nut allergies in my house) but everything else was good :D

    I  MFP.

Thank you everybody for all the suggestions. I absolutely have thought about nuts (my friends on MFP have reminded me of them constantly) but...outside of peanuts they're fairly expensive. Not just expensive, my store donot have any trail mix thats unsalted. I will try and make some trail mix myself with almonds, peanuts, walnuts and other goodies

Gotta go with almonds! About 170 calories for one ounce. While the fat is high, it's almost all mono and poly, so it actually helps to raise your HDL, the good cholesterol. They now make these in several different flavors including dark chocolate, butter toffee, chocolate mint, traditional smoked, lime and chili, sea salt, etc. As such, they are great as an add-on for lunch/dinner with the more savory flavors or as a dessert or quick snack with the sweeter flavors.

Another thing that I've recently found that my wife told me about are the Kashi cookies. These things have about 4 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein in a cookie and are about 130 calories per cookie. Several different flavors that hit the spot in place of other snack items. The oatmeal raisin flaxseed has no saturated fat. These are decent sized cookies so one or two will satisfy a sweet craving.

Bush's beans are one of my all-time favorites except that the sodium is high. 1/2 cup of the Traditional Smokehouse is about 160 calories, but has 5 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein with just 1 gram of total fat. I'll cook this up and then get a serving of Light Ruffles ... 80 calories for 15 chips and no saturated fat ... and eat this like "chips and dip." Works out to be about 240 calories, 9 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, and no saturated fat.

I don't know if you live in the US or Canada, but Costco sells a giant bag of almonds for about 20 bucks, which could last you a good 6 months if you freeze em
