I do sometimes, mostly when I am coming off of a night shift or going back onto night shift. Swing shift usually screws up my days anyway. I only go 2 days though and it usually isn't much if any at all.
  • Banking calories? Cmon, you know theres no such thing! thats like saying im not gonna eat ANYTHING with FAT in it from Monday thru Saturday, but then on SUNDAY im gonna eat 2 boxes of pizza cause I earned that fat...really? Your body does not work this way (banking). It burns through what you put into it as it receives it, so if you overload it 1 day, it will 'store' the excess that it is not used to. Thus the reason why we have all gained weight to begin with, cause we ate too much, simple! I dont mean to be rude, but consider how we all got here in the first place was from TOO MUCH BANKING, EVERYDAY. Just saying.

    Wrong.

If you eat less throughout the week your body will have used energy from other body stores (glycogen, fat, muscle etc) and eating more on one day will only restore those extra lost stores of energy.

And i don't think he meant to save like 500cals a day, which sounds like what you're talking about..

I don't bank calories but I go into my week with a set amount of "weekly bonus calories" similar to weight watchers. I eat the bulk of them on the weekend and spread the rest out over my week. I prefer this method over my other. It allows my splurges and keeps this realistic for me...in the long run, that keeps me on track more than being overly strict. I enjoy beer, pizza and other foods so this helps me to fit those into my week in moderation. Eating the same amount of calories every single day would be incredibly boring not to mention having hjgh/low days is great for your metabolism and can prevent plateaus. I have a detailed explanation of what my "plan" is like on my profile. Feel free to add me to take a look. Good luck & do what works for you!
    added you! :)

    Funny...I don't remember saying that.

I didnt say that YOU said that. I was giving you an example luke. I understood what you mean by carrying over calories. but consider the things that happen within our bodies when we eat. Over eating one day because you ate less the day before is not the best approach. Again..im just saying....everyone is free to experiment. just an Opinion guys/gals. :-)

So what you are saying is that if I have 6 days in a week with 200 cals left over and then 1 day where I overeat by say 500 calories that's going to be detrimental to the my weight loss? Seems to me that I'd still have a deficit of 700 cals for the week.

Having one day every now and then isn't bad... a lot of people have a "cheat" day, as long as it doesn't get out of control. It's better to think of it that way. But only cheat a little. Banking doesn't really work. Your body doesn't care about what you did 3 days ago (as far as calorie consumption is concerned). Remember, the body needs a certain amount of calories in a day to do it's activity, which is what MFP tells you to eat. If you eat less, it attacks fat stores, if you eat more it stores the "fuel" as fat.

Odds are, if you are set up to lose 1 lb a week, if you go over by 500 calories on one day, you'll be "maintaining" for that day. Nothing wrong with it... especially if it keeps you on track for the rest of the week!.

I do it every once in a while...not purposefully, but during the week (mostly when I'm not with my boyfriend), I tend to eat healthier and less than on the weekends. At the end of the week, if you have a deficit of 3500 calories for that week, you're going to have lost a pound for that week. Simple :)

This is still wrong. Your body does care what you did 3 days ago. If you are set to eat at a deficit of 500 calories a day and you "save" an extra 200 calories per day Monday-Friday and then eat an extra 1000 on Saturday, you are still at a deficit for the week. Your body's weight loss cycle is generally between 7 and 10 days long. The maintaining for one day argument doesn't really work because that's not how our bodies work.

If you don't feel comfortable "banking" calories, you shouldn't do it. I don't. But, that doesn't mean that other people shouldn't. Banking calories is not going to affect your weight loss.

I don't plan on it, but it sometimes happens this way for me. Just depends if I'm going out for dinner, if I'm wanting to splurge a little more that day, etc.
The deficit is set up for the week (Monday-Monday). As long as your #'s are within range on your weekly net cals at the end of the week, you're fine.
