Body Cleanses - Share your story!

I know that there are advocates for and against body cleanses but I've been wanting to do one for a while. I'm interested to see the difference in how I feel, how my body acts and if my energy levels change after ridding my body of toxins and buildups. Any weight/inch loss would just be a bonus.
I am not in support of the types of cleanses where you don't eat at all, eat only one meal and drink the rest, etc. I've heard a lot about the Advocare line of products recently and have learned that, while it is a 10 day commitment, the food restrictions seem quite reasonable - no dairy, no alcohol, only whole grain carbs combined with lots of veggies, fruits and lean proteins, basically clear liquids. I've ordered it, along with a few other products including a vitamin supplement and energy drink and am planning to start it next week when it arrives. (This is not a sponsored post, I promise!)
I'm interested in hearing your experiences with cleanses. What did you do? How did you feel? Did you see weight loss because of it and were you able to keep it off? Would you do it again? Please don't try to talk me out of it - I'm doing it! - but if you have a negative story, please share that too.

I personally have never done a cleanse. I have read about a lot of them as there was a time I wanted to do one as well since I thought it'd be great to clean out the toxins and such.
A friend of mine did one and has permanently screwed up her digestive system because of it. She is in constant pain among other problems.
Your body is built in a wonderful way. Your kidneys and liver cleanse your body themselves. If you eat healthy, fresh clean foods, drink water and exercise your body will fully cleanse itself.
Cleanses are just money makers and are pretty pointless. Once you stop the cleanse and go back to eating normally those imaginary toxins will just build right back up
They can be dangerous no matter how "Natural" they are. Natural doesn't always mean good for you.
There is a lot of information about cleanses on the forums and lot of experiences and reviews as well as advice. Personally, (with what you described) it seems like a waste to spend money on those products when eating whole grains, lots of veggies, fruits and lean proteins, along with lots of water will cleanse your body itself.0 -
The closest I've come to a diet cleanse was The HollyWood diet. It is a big bottle of juice you can either buy the big bottle or a concentrated version that you add water to. It lasts 2 days and is about 400 calories a day. You sip your half a jug a juice all day long and drink at least 8 glasses of water with it, then repeat the next day. It tastes good but I got the shakes (most likely from hypoglycemia or STARVING). Great if you have a wkend and want to lose some water weight. I think I lost about 5-6 lbs in two days.
The other cleanse I did was prior to CT scan. Yeah, that was pleasant! Do not reccomend. Cut out dairy for one day, then clear liquid diet the next till noon, then only water till four when you got to take 3 laxitive tabs, then at six got to drink a whole bottle of magnesium citrate (tasted like syrupy soda). Then sat on the toilet for the next 12 hours, nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
This was a pretty effective cleanse and cheap. Think I lost about 5 lbs in one day.
There is no solid research that cleansing removes toxins from your body, you may infact become more prone to absorbing toxins in your tap and bottled water and irritate your colon depending on your cleanse. If you want to do one try it, if it makes you feel better great.0 -
The only "cleanse" I've ever done is the one they make you do when you're going to get a colonoscopy or surgery on your intestinal track. Absolutely the worst experiences I've ever had in my life. I will NEVER put my self through that again if I can avoid it. I don't understand why anyone would want to do it on purpose.
Instead, try a flush by drinking tons of water. It will cleanse you just as any expensive bottle of junk can. Plus, you're gonna replace all that stuff you just cleansed out anyway. Just drink extra water to flush out any unwanted stuff and eat clean. Easier on your body and cheaper.0 -
I did a 7 day by Enzymatic Therapy a few years ago. I think it helped a little. I felt a little lighter and it made me stop craving sweets, so I was satisfied with it.
I'm going to look into the Avocare one you mentioned. Sounds like it might be good. Good luck with whatever you try!0 -
Most of the cleanse products are little more than overpriced fibre (some of the more extreme ones verge on quackery and are downright unhealthy) - you can accomplish the exact same goal by getting rid of processed foods (usually way too much sodium hence feeling bloated and too much fat which leads to feeling lethargic) eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking more water. The human body is a brilliant piece of engineering and, in the absence of acute disease, is quite capable of cleansing itself when maintained properly.0
