I'm going to agree with those who say that if it fits your calorie allowance, drink it. The yogurt I eat has as much as 35 grams of sugar per serving and it does not appear to have hindered my weight loss. I actually don't track my sugar at all...just calories.

You think it would be an OK drink to have with dinner tonight? lol And water of course. I'm having marinated chicken breast with Brussels sprouts and a potato. although i think I'll have half since I'm fine with half of one.

Okay, her is my take on this for YOU.

I looked at your profile, you are beautiful and your body is rockin! If you enjoy this drink, please, by all means DRINK IT. You should not be scared to have a little sugar in some almond milk, you should relax and enjoy your life.

You are 21 years old, there is plenty of time, later in life, to stress over 20g sugar in milk, but today, enjoy it, please. Having a healthy relationship with food means we do not fear it.

I would have different advice if you were over weight or maybe older, but you my dear are doing just fine.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm only worried since I am in starvation mode and I'm afraid having too much of anything that could be converted into stored fat will make my fat lose harder to lose. I don't really want to lose weight, inf act, i want to gain muscle since I've lost a lot of it in the past and I've gained more fat because of this starvation mode I'm in.

Kepp in mind, I AM going to see my doctor next week sometime to see what exactly is going on with my body. I use to have a lean, stronger body that had lots more muscle and less fat. i weigh less right now than I did before. i use to weight 120Lbs with more muscle and less fat but now i weigh 105 with less muscle but more fat.

If you are in starvation mode honey, you need to eat more, simple as that. I upped my calories a by a couple of hundred and started eating back the majority of my exercise calories and burned fat while gaining muscle. I hit my goal last week and I am 43 years old, so the whole eat more to have less fat thing is real. Drink that almond milk, drink all of it you want.

Thanbk you. I posted this in concern my fat gain will get worse because everyone told me to eat more so I did, but since my metabolism is slower now, it holds onto things I eat or drink easier than ever before. I'm going to the doctors this week to see what exactly is going on with my body and to get back to where i was before in 2009. lol I hope he can help me achieve my body again.

I hope he doesn't suggest me stop working out, I can't stop if I want to to build muscle and burn fat. Maybe after I tell him what my goal is, he won't say that.

Well my dear, you may want to consider seeing a therapist instead of a doctor, this sounds like more of a mental thing than a physical thing. I have a feeling he is going to say that before he is going to tell you to stop exercising. Exercise is good, not eating is bad.

...I don't need a therapist. I know not eating enough is bad but if you don't workout, that, too is bad. Especially if you're trying to gain muscles.
  • I would also suggest a full blood panel and a therapist. I have both a GP and a therapist treating me because I was under eating. I've had to go in every 3 months for the past year for blood work due to things like iron and vitamin D coming back deathly low. Most of the almond/soy/coconut milks are going to have extra vitamins in them because a lot of vegetarian/vegans drink them. I would drink it. I have a class of silk Chocolate every night

Do you think that the Original (NOT the unsweetened version) would be OK to have? Is that 20 grams of sugar added sugars and should I stay away from this drink?

still too much sugar for my taste.

It's up to you... read the label and see if it fits into your personal diet.

For me personally, I buy unsweetened and use it in my protien shakes.
If I bought the full sugar one, I'd probably only put in half a cup into a shake or use small amounts as coffee creamer.

Sorry dear but normal 20 year olds that have a healthy relationship with food do not fear drinking almond milk and come to a fitness forum to ask if it will be okay. You say you are in starvation mode and have to go to the dr to figure out how to fix it? You fix it by eating more, if you can not wrap your head around that fact, then it is important that you recognize this is a problem.

There is no shame in getting help for something that could be harmful to us. Lord knows I have had my share of all kinds of it.

I am not trying to be rude at all, I hope you know that. I am concerned. I had a friend that died from an obsession of the mind and I never said anything to her out of fear she would be mad. Now I wish she was here and mad at me.
