I read the entire triology in less than two weeks. Love the books!
The movie was good but left out a lot of things that I felt were vital to the story. They also added things that helped the story flow that weren't in the book. It shouldnt be interesting to see how they produce the second and third books...

I want to check out the books 1st, they really that good? I am curious, I saw a story about fans that were upset about a girl being cast as an african american and not white, was this really an issue for people who read the books? I've been a little suprised by people cast for roles before but I have never seen so many freaking out over race.

Own all 3 books and have read all 3 twice! Needless to say I am a fan. I saw the movie and it was good, but I think I would have liked it better if I hadn't read the books first! They changed some things, left things out and added things. I understand they have to do this to make the book flow as a movie, but being a die-hard fan of the book I found it a little annoying. I think they did an excellant job of casting the characters though! And I admit I cried when Rue died even though I knew it was coming!

    It was ABSOLUTELY awesome, imo.

Nope. I didn't even know it was a book until I saw the movie.

The idiots who freaked out over Rue being cast as a black girl are all class A loosers! I knew we had a lot of ignorant people in this world, but they really came out of the wood-work over this. The book describes Rue and Thresh (both from District 11) as having dark brown skin and dark hair and eyes. I think the young girl who played Rue did an excellant job and those A-holes who whined about her race should not open their big mouths when they obviously have such tiny minds. *end rant* :blushing:

Read all 3 books, haven't seen the film. 2nd book was the best IMO.

I LOVED both. I cried at the film at several points and the filmmakers really managed to keep everyone's attention, and even the people I was with who hadn't read the book managed to understand and enjoy it. :) And I love my books as much as the next person, and that one was definitely an entertaining read.

Definitely worth the read AND the watch.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but all 3 books are amazing. I couldn't put them down. Hope the movie doesn't let me down.

Read the entire triology in about 5 days...I loved them all! I'm dying to see the movie!
  • I have devoured all three books in a week, and I am going to see the film tomorrow night, I cannot wait! My friend has already seen it, who is a film synic, had read the books, expected to be disappointed (she always is) but she loved it. I am loaning out my books to another friend now to get my life back to normal, and asleep at a nice time!

The funny thing about the African-Americans cast in those two roles... When I read the discriptions, I kinda figured they were a "minority" or since it is set in the future, mixed race. They were described as having dark brown skin...

So I didn't understand why so many people were upset about it. An "African-American" would certainly fit the description given.(using quotes because the country in the book isn't the USA anymore).

Read all three books in less then 9 days. Haven't seen the movie yet, so shhhh don't tell me anything. I heard they are making the three books into 4 movies.

If you like the Hunger Games read Divergent by Veronica Roth, it was very good and I couldn't put it down the same way as Hunger Games trilogy. There is only 1 book so far in the Divergent Trilogy, but the 2nd one comes out May 1st.

I haven't read any of the books, and I'm really glad I hadn't. So many times watching a movie after reading a book can be frustrating. I found this movie to be one of the best I've seen in a long time. Obviously the story and it's meaning are great, but so many other things were so well done in my opinion. I hope they win an award for best costumes with how they portrayed the "haves" in the city - what creativity and what better way to show the superficial inner nature of people right there on the outside. The acting was exceptional particularly with so many younger cast members. I am white, so maybe I'm just not getting this whole race thing. I thought the actress who played Rue was sensational!!! Why would people want to complain that an African American was cast for a role that showed courage, strength, smarts, and morality? Even if the book had described her as an albino, I think the casting choice for Rue was ideal. That young lady took the part and ran with it!

On a side note, there was a preview before the movie that had me smiling (I don't know if the same previews are shown in all locations). The Stephanie Meyers book "The Host" is coming out a year from now as a movie! Although I enjoyed the Twilight series, I thought this book was much better and really lends itself to the big screen. Keep your eye out for that one!

Happy weekend to you all - I'm watching "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" tonight since it's finally out on DVD

In the book, she'd described as African-American. The people who were upset were just angry racists, with low levels of reading comprehension. :)

Also, this is true. I got the impression she was black reading the books, but according to someone I know has read it in another language, that isn't very clearly stated.

I loved the first two books. I wasn't as thrilled with the third. The movie was ok, but I felt that it was not nearly as good as the book.

Books One and Two were great, book Three, not so much. I'm going to see the movie tomorrow....not expecting it to be exactly like the book but hopefully close and it captures the book well!

Loved it. It was great. They did a bit or re-arranging to make it fit into the 2 hours and 20 minutes, but I was very, very pleased.
