I just had my baby March 5th and now that i have gotten over most of the sleep deprivation I am ready to lose all the baby fat. However, I am still nursing and am trying to find the right balance of calories to allow me to produce the right amount of milk for my baby but still start to lose weight. I changed my settings to my current weight and went down from trying to lose 2 pounds per week to 1. The site had given me 2150 each day. Does this sound right? Also I read that A breastfeeding mother loses 500 calories a day just feeding the baby. Does that mean I should put it as a exercise thing?

Well, you can log it manually as an exercise thing. What I did was I just adjusted my daily goal to 300-500 calories above the recommended. You can do that in the settings, if you hit "custom" instead.

What I would do is play around with it. For me, I could cut calories, and it didn't effect my supply at all, so long as a snacked throughout the day, at least every 2-3 hours. I played around with the net calories, some days eating more, some less, just depending on how I was feeling, and always ate my exercise cals back, and I didn't have any effect on my supply at all. We're still nursing at 19months and counting. ;)

Good luck! It's kind of tricky when you try and lose weight while breastfeeding, because every body reacts differently. Some people lose weight like that, and other people, like me, hang on to every last pound like it's going out of style. Just don't put too much stress on yourself. :)

You may have to play around for what works best for you.

In the food tracker you can add breastfeeding which will deduct calories from your total allowing you to eat more. You can than add those in when you feed to get a more accurate count.

Nursing exclusively gives you about 500 extra calories. You can search breastfeeding exclusively in the food database and it will give you negative calories. Eat them! Also, some women lose weight breastfeeding, others don't. It may be disappointing but your first responsibility goes to making sure your baby has the proper nutrition. When you are breastfeeding, your body will want to hold onto some fat, don't get too ambitious too quickly and there's a good chance that that last 10 lbs won't want to come off until you have weaned.

Finally, remember that your body still needs to heal its self. Take it one day at a time. No offense but it made me giggle when you said you were about "over the sleep deprivation." I have a 1 and 3 year old and I'm still not over it from the first one. :flowerforyou:

Take your time and enjoy your wee one!

Just a thought.I did not increase my calories when breast feeding, just ate the same as usual and drank tons of water and protein. That said I lost all my baby weight twice in 4 months. I gained 50 ibs with each. Starving women in africa breast feed their baby's so I wouldnt worry to much about eating more calories just keep your fluid intake really high.Thats just my two cents :)
