I'm so frustrated I could cry.

I'm so sick of being sick I just don't know what to do with myself! I've been sick with one thing or another for the last month or so.

My body is so wiped out that I can't bear the idea of exercise, not to mention knowing the effect it'll have on this chest cold of mine.

I went and worked out yesterday.. pushed through an hour of cardio and some strength training.. and normally I would be happy to be so sore then next day, but I'm just miserable. I strained my neck or something because it's killing me and giving me a headache.

I don't mean to just come on here and whine, but I feel like giving up. I feel like the cardio is making me sicker because everday after I do it I feel so crappy it's unbelievable. ALL I want to do is go home and relax. I don't want to go home and drag my 9 month old to the gym with me... take 20 minutes to calm him down after trying to leave him with the temporary day care they have, go to the treadmill, stare it at a while, get on and feel embarrassed while I as quietly as possible hack my lungs out.

I probably should just take a break and let myself get better, but I thought I was better until today. I didn't go to the gym at all from last tuesday to yesterday... ALMOST A WEEK! to give myself time to get over it, well, look at where I am.

I keep trying to tell myself that there's always next week, but it's not keeping the motivation going. If anyone has any advice, let me know, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks :flowerforyou:

Just curious if you've seen a doctor, perhaps you have some respiratory issues that arise while doing cardiovascular exercises????? If that's not a problem then I wish you the best of luck for a speedy recovery!

All I can say is...IT WILL GET BETTER.:flowerforyou: I promise! I just got over being sick not too long ago and I was MISERABLE! I took 3 days off from exercise, then started walking S-L-O-W-L-Y on the treadmill. Then gradually got back into my old routine. I think it took me about a week to recover fully. So, it was not as long-lasting as yours is, however I understand the frustration. Maybe you could even try doing some light stretching at home...that would be good. Be sure to drink TONS of water and have some soup and vitamins and all those good things for you. You will get better and the exercising will ge easier. It just takes time. So, hang in there and you WILL acheive greatness!! I'm thinking about you!!

Did you get checked out for bronchitis? If you're hacking out your lungs, it could be a bacterial infection (hence, why it wouldn't go away.) I get this every winter, and if I don't go to the doctor, I do "feel better" for a while, but I still have the cough, which only goes away after I get an antibiotic. Either way, if you've been sick for a month (off and on), you should go back to a doctor--you might be lacking some sort of nutrient that would give you a weakened immune system. At any rate, don't give up! Give yourself as much time as you need to get well, and then start fresh. I know that might not be much motivation, but take it as your body's reminder that you need to rest and recuperate!

    Good luck!
  • it is good to do light cardio when sick. Well except for when you are at the worst stages of your sicknes. Then you should rest & drink as much liquids as possible, even though it's hard to drink water when your throat is all scratchy. So I would walk on the tread mill for like 30 mins or something. Don't try to do the normal cardio you would do if not sick. Hope that helps.

You need to be kinder to yourself.
Allow yourself a couple of days off and then come back slowly. You need to build up
your endurance again. The others are right soon you will be well and everything will be so much easier. You just need to get past this set back.
We are here for you - vent away:bigsmile:
  • going to a doctor gets my vote. a lot of my neighbors have been down for the count for anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks with awful, hacking coughs. they go to a doctor and after a few days of meds, they start to feel better. besides, you don't want to give it to your 9 month old munchkin. cut yourself a break, nothing ever goes exactly as planned. you will get better, you will get fit.
  • for sure the doctor of course....! but dont be so hard on your self about the working out thing. it takes a long time to get back into it after you have taken even a few days off. your body needs time to recover from being sick and it needs to recover from not working out! dont give up on working out! if you have someone to watch the lil' boy..... take advantage of that. even if he doesnt like it..... its good for you and you are important too! :flowerforyou:

First off do not cry, this is temporary and will go away in time. I PROMISE!
I can not TELL you haw many people we are seeing in here with the exact same thing as you have, I have a front desk nurse that told me she feels like saying things like "You have a chest cold and a bronc infection. Here is what everyone else is getting, same for you, NEXT!" :frown: :ohwell:
Needless to say I am with Wanderlust go to the DR at the very least you will get the meds you need to get you going again. then you get to go to Walgreens with the rest of America and get the exact same meds that everyone else is getting.
I also read something on MSN (I think) that excercise helps your body fight colds 50% better with JUST walking! JUST WALKING!!!!! 50% BETTER HOW COOL IS THAT??!!?? You do not have to jog around the block HECK YOU CAN NOT BREATH ANYWAY! Just walking, and you can do that in front of your bed, when you need to, Lay down!

  • Thanks guys,

I think i will go to the dr. I always feel so dumb when i go and they're just like "it's just a cold, go home and get some sleep". But since it's been going on for so long maybe they will perscribe me antibiotics.

Thanks for the help, and you're right, this is temporary. I'll just get right back on it when I get better.

Thanks again, you guys are great!!! :flowerforyou:
  • I know how you feel

I have asthma really bad and in order to breath I have to take steroids that make me gain weight.

Go to the doctor. Take Gentle care of yourself and ease back into things. Right now it's most important to take care of yourself. We'll keep you in prayer.

I'm with you. I came down with this respiratory infection last week and I haven't felt like working out since last Wednesday. I went to the Dr. immediately but I've got a wicked fever that will not go away. The key is to get plenty of rest, plenty of fluids and take it easy. I had to leave work early yesterday and go home and get in bed. I think I've turned the corner and I'm on my way to wellness.

My question is, when do I go back to the gym? I'm afraid of doing too much, too soon and having a relapse.
