I have never understood why. & sometimes I don't wake up early enough to eat breakfast. Or I simply don't have time.

    Who told you so ?
  • Breakfast is more you're first meal of the day, it doesn't have to be typical breakfast foods. I work late nights and typically don't wake up until 11 or 12. Sometimes if I'm the mood I whip up eggs or something like that, but usually I have a sandwich and some yogrut or fruit. I just try to make sure my first of the day is healthy and balanced to get me started.

It's not. I only eat breakfast on the weekends, and my fitness hasn't fallen off. I think its ok.

After all the repair and building your body has been doing as you sleep it is desperate for new resources.
Myself I start early, and get up at 5.30, so I just have a protein drink.
I have opted for one with thermogenic properties to bump start my metabolism.

Yes it is an old saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Also, the adage of not eating after 6 pm, my doc recommends that one, although I do not trust her,
her thoughts that you should not eat after 6 pm to empty your stomach to stop things being turned to fat, seem to make sense.

It's not about eating "on time". It's about "breaking the fast" --- get it? break...fast... - hopefully you weren't eating in your sleep. You get up and most likely have not eaten for at least 8-10 hrs and need some nutrition to get moving into your day. While it is true that you'll burn calories if you skip breakfast, those are not the calories you want to be burning. Remember, you need to fuel your body in order to move enough to burn fat. This website is frequented by MANY people, mostly women, who will tell you the pitfalls of skipping meals and undereating. Eventually, most of us got fatter than ever and all the meal skipping backfired on us, because we'd messed up the ol' metabolism.

i guess because your stomach is empty after sleeping all night and needs fuel in the morning. i started eating breakfast every morning since i started MFP and i dont know if it is a reason or not but i keep losing weight so i guess i'll stick with that!

Meal timing is irrelevant to metabolism. Eat whenever your lifestyle allows.

The clue is in the name - "break fast". Your body has been fasting al lnight whil eyou slept, and most people don't usualy eat anything immediately before going to bed, so let's say around 8 hours of sleep, plus a couple of hours before that since yo uhad your last snack, and that's 10 hours without putting food into your body. Breakfast is basically just refuelling your body readyto start the day, You wouldn't try to drive your car with an empty petrol tank - it's the same thing - don't try and start your day and expect your body to respond well if you don't refuel by havnig a little something to eat. It kind of indicates to your body that you're ready to get going and gives you an energy boost and kick-starts your metabolism. You'll probably have low blood sugar when you first get up too, so eating helps bring your levels up to where they should be.
