Boosting your metabolism

Hello,
I am a 59 yo-something newbie here and I am looking for ways to boost my metabolism. I have been using this website for about a month and I have lost 8 lbs so far. I exercise every day and have changed my routines a bit but I get "stuck" on a plateau and can't seem to lose any more. I have added the "sugar"column on my homepage in case I am consuming too much sugar. So much can be hidden! I have added a couple of cups of milk a day because I read an article that suggested doing so can boost your metabolism.
My goal is to lose another 12 lbs. I think that is realistic for me.
What has worked for you?

Thank you

Truthfully, I don't know! BUT what has worked for me is spike/cheat days once or twice a week. Some agree and it works for them, others don't...it is up to you. Scared the hell out of me to try it, but WOW, it worked. I'm also at the point where I'm onto my last 12 and of course for us women over 40, it's the hardest to get rid of. I have also found that mixing up my cardio and using HIIT 3x/week has been effective. I'm an avid fan of Julian Michaels and have recently done the 30 day shred and am now starting week 2 of Ripped in 30. I really think it's all about mixing it up and not letting your body get too used to any ONE thing. Trial and Error is the key! Best of luck in whatever you do. Try adding Sodium to your tracking...that's a big one!

PS - Meal wise, you may want to try Chris Powell's (Biggest Loser) book called Chose to Lose...I live by it. Again, good luck!

Don't you realize that 8 pounds in a month is a lot of weight to lose? You're doing fine. You didn't put the weight on in just a few months, so be realistic. If you only lose 4 to 6 pounds a month, until you get the last 12 pounds off, that's excellent and you can count yourself among the lucky. You will find a lot of people on here who patiently lose at that rate. Focus on fitness and make sure you eat enough. I don't know about milk boosting your metabolism - if the source of that information was the American Dairy Council, be suspicious. Could be true, but I dunno. Sounds like you're at least on the right track - I hear that exercise boosts the metabolism and it's probably more essential than extra dairy products.
