As you prepare for 8 To Great, are you emotionally ready?
You think you know what you are getting into when you go into a weight loss plan. You brain tells you it is time. You know you want to feel better. You know all of the reasons and you have done all the research.
Emotionally, are you ready?
This is a personal journey for everyone, really, and unless you look at your emotions straight on and are ready to deal with them, this may become a lost journey or a journey down the wrong road. How can it become the wrong road?
OK, so you know what you are SUPPOSED to be eating. Your mind is saying “don’t eat that Oreo. Don’t you DARE go after that Oreo.” Well, that’s like saying “Don’t think about polar bears.” What are you thinking about? Polar bears!
Your crutch might have to go away or might be lessened on this journey. Are you ready to deal with that? What’s your crutch? Oreos? Chips? Wine? None of these things are BAD. What makes them a challenge for you is that you have too many of them. Why do you have too many of them? Because you are either mindlessly eating, accustomed to eating too many, or telling yourself NOT to eat them, which backfires into a tragic state of overindulgence.
What else holds you back? Are you fearful of backlash? Does your family buy into health? Your friends? Coworkers? Are you going to get razzed at work for bringing your lunch or not going to happy hour? Are you going to sit around complaining about your “new diet?’
Well, let me tell you now, that if you are calling anything you are doing your “new diet,” you are destined to fall off. The term “new diet” is terribly negative, and implies that it is something you won’t have to ENDURE forever.
Your new way of eating and your new way of LIVING now is going to be one of vibrance. It will be food that you can’t wait to enjoy. It will be something that you will want to shout to the rafters because your new life is so vivacious! The food is great! Your energy is through the roof! You feel like a million dollars!
But are you ready to feel it? Do you have a support system? Are the plans getting set? Are you excited? REALLY excited? You should be. It’s not a prison to be healthy. It’s a life line. Enjoy your journey.
