Expired vitamins

I drink milk a bit past the date, when I can smell that it's still okay, and I try to finish it quickly when I notice it's near the end. How about vitamins? Are they bad to take past the date? Do they do anything or would I be taking them for nothing? I have a big bottle of 600 mg calcium tablets that my Mom gave me when she fell out of the habit of taking them and they were just sitting there. My husband suggested keeping them in the fridge to keep them fresher longer and I've been taking them, alternating with other vitamins, when I've noticed the Exp. date says 03/2012. The bottle is still about 1/3 full. Do I continue taking them or throw them away?

i don't think that it would taste funny, but the nutrients may be degrading in them. i'm not sure if there would actually be good quality calcium left if you leave it much longer.0
