Gym / Health club pet peeves, what are yours?

For many of us the gym or health club is the second or third location we spend the most time at in our day to day lives. What are some of the pet peeves you see while working out at your gym or health club?

1)Towels all over the locker room. The staff at my 24 hour mega health club try pretty hard to keep up with keeping the locker rooms clean. It seems to be a losing battle as so many men appear to have never been taught to pick up after themselves. Women, you are not exempt from this either :), as my daughter and other women I know have mentioned the same problem in the women's locker room.

2)I mentioned this one in another thread. People who feel the need to do their crunches, pushups etc... in the sauna. It's 190º or so in there, I don't really care to watch you people take up floor space while working out.

3)Personal trainers that want to chat with you in the middle of your cardio machine workout. I don't really care to talk to anyone when I'm doing my cardio as I'm usually a little short on breath from exercising. I have had this happen quite a few times and it always turns out the same way with them trying to get me to sign up for a personal training session. Our personal trainers set their own training prices, so it becomes a little competitive between them. If I want personal training sessions, I can see the huge desk with the sign over it that says personal trainers, plus all of the trainers were the same outfits that say in big letters on the back "Personal Trainer"

4)People who combine machine cardio and cardio exercises. What I mean is someone may be on the treadmill 2 minutes, step off of it and start doing pushups in the middle of the aisle for about 1 minute, get back on the treadmill, do another couple of minutes, step off do some more pushups or crunches, repeat over and over.....

That is my quick list off the top of my head. Feel free to add yours or shed some light of logic on some of mine.

lmao @ trainers talking while you're on cardio equipment...I hate that! I can barely breathe as it is dude! Let a woman run in peace.

Someone putting a fan on, but aiming it all over the place so it hits you when you don't want it to. Boom.

We have this guy at my gym that grunts on EVERY, SINGLE REP! It is so annoying and I can hear it over my music. I understand the occasional grunt trying to get that last rep or two, but not every freaking repetition.

Even though I dont work in the industry, I do hate when people dont put their weights back or load them incorrectly on the tree!

re; PT'ers: Now I was wondering this about when this happens to females. Are they sometimes hitting on you versus soliciting training sessions? Not that I wouldn't mind if our female Pt'ers were hitting on me, but that's not the case. :)

re: putting weights back: I don't do much with free weights, but I have heard that complaint many times at our health club. I assume they are the same people who leave their towels all over the locker room. :)

I must be the only one with no pet peeves about my gym. I can't believe trainers are allowed to advertise to you guys mid workout though. That's crazy, what if you hurt yourself?

I would say it a great thing if you have no pet peeves, maybe I'm too sensitive and aware about this stuff. :)

One time I was on the treadmill doing a brisk 90 minute walk while watching a movie on my Ipad(with headphones) and this personal trainer interrupts me while I'm in the middle of the movie to solicit his training services. He started the conversation about how neat it was to see me watching a movie on an Ipad while using the treadmill, saying he never saw that before. :) He quickly then turned the discussion into training sessions.

My gym is a small, neighborhood gym where everyone knows everyone by first name. I go when it's all old people there because of my work schedule, so I think the trainers (not old) are just happy to talk to someone without risk of the person's dentures falling out mid conversation. They're not selling, just being friendly and are unaware of my inability to breathe while running! Maybe I just need to get in better shape so I can speak instead of nod in response!

Oh another one is when someone asks me how many sets I have left on the squat rack and then hover over me acting impatient. Im going to get my rest between sets so just deal with it!

When people get out of the pool and drip all over the locker room floor...then I have to change! And I hate when the seasons change and they don't adjust the fan. 85 in Houston (muggy, much, muggy) is no joke!

Here is another, how could I forget. People who do not wipe down the equipment after using it. C'mon it's take a moment to do.

Very good point with calorie burn being affected by holding on. In most cases I don't hold on, but some machines I just don't have the balance I like to not hold on. Like the stairmaster, do people walk up stairs hunched over leaning up against the railing? :)
  • Squeaky Machines!!! Especially if there are other options; for example-if there are 10 treadmills to pick from there is NO need to stay on the squeaky one!!

Dudes comin to the gym smelling like Kush.

Gang activity, usually just throwing up signs

Women coming in wearing shower caps and homemade gym attire usually cut off pajamas.

Women having breast and buttocks out. Actually I like this one if they are fit and attractive.

People takin a dump in the locker room stinking it up and god forbid grunting!!!!

Getting asked for change by homeless or Jehovah's witnesses.

I go to a very hood gym
