I've given up drinking soda and I have to say I feel much better and do not crave it anymore. I don't care to drink juice because of its sugar content. And I drink a couple glasses of milk everyday.

So that leaves water. I try to drink water but it just doesn't sound good unless I'm actually thirsty. Theres two problems with that....

The first is if I only drink when I'm thirsty; I am sooo not getting my recommened daily amount of water.

The second is that if you allow yourself to get thirsty, then you are already dehydrated. Which is not good either.

My question is: How do you go about making sure you are getting enough water intake? Does anybody else have the same issues I do??

  • I don't know if it will help you but this did me. I hate water. But I learned to drink 1 glass at each meal (well before the meal) and I made sure I finish my glass of water before I even touch anything alse to drink. Now after almost 4 months it is a habit to drink my water first before anything else. I even drink a glass now before each snack. I dont bother to log it any more unless I add a flavoring to the water.

I have a one-litre flask. I make myself fill it twice in a day, and drink everything in it. Having that set amount reminds me how much I need to get through.

I drink my first litre up until 5pm as this is the time I'm in the office certain days of the week, and I have the other litre after 5pm when I'm at home and on my evening schedule.

Also, I only drink flavoured water at 1.5 calories per 500ml. I can't drink plain water.

I hated water too. I was drinking 3-5 redbulls a day, then pepsi the rest of the day. I cut both out. Every here and there I may have a diet, but I mostly drink nothing but water. I had to force it at first, and put lemon in it, and could only drink it with a straw. Now it's just habbit to grab water. I generally get anywhere between 5 and 6 cups of water a day. On a gym day I'm usually right at 8. You do get a lot of water from food too, especially veggies.

I used to hate water as well but the more of it I drank the more I wanted.

Maybe it's certain water you don't like. What type are you drinking? I love distilled water but hate tape water.

You can try adding flavourings to your water. Lemon, orange, cucumber slices? Make iced tea out of decaf tea. Things like that.

Get a water bottle you like and set a goal. Sometimes drinking water with a straw helps to drink more.
