6 weeks no exercise :((

I am having a full circumferential body lift on 4/18 to remove all my excess skin. I know this will make a huge difference in my life and I'm excited. BUT the surgery will require me to not work out for 6 weeks. I work out daily - most days 2x a day. I'm so scared of losing strength and endurance and gaining weight!!

First off, congrats on your weight loss. That's amazing.

So, if you don't work out for 6 weeks, yes, you will lose a little strength and endurance. It probably won't be as much as you think, and you can definitely get it all back! As far as weight gain, just adjust your eating accordingly. Focus on healing your body and then get back on track! Will you be able to walk at all, or no exercise, period?

I had a six week break too. Was allowed to get back to the gym 2 weeks ago.
It was really frustrating not beeing able to work out (I was allowed to walk though, so I walked1-2h per day, accept first 4 days when I was so druged, that I was sleeping all the time almost).
I have lost strength in arms, but due to walking my butt actually got stronger.
I can see that I'm gaining strenght and endurence back really fast. I think I'm almost where I left it, and it's been only 2 weeks.
So don't worry, you will get back in shape in no time :)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just watch your food intake and you'll be fine.

There are all types of bed bound and chair bound people that still can get in activity. Talk to your doctor. When you're in bed, you can lift and move your arms. Once you are able to leave bed and walk around a little, you can do some light in home walking like with a Leslie Sansone tape.

You probably can't do anything vigorous, but you can still move around within prescribed limits.

Thanks everyone for calming me down. I have my pre-op appointment this Thursday. I *THINK* he previously said that i will be able to walk soon after the surgery, so that will help. I will not be able to walk upright for a couple of weeks is my understanding due to the skin being pulled so tight. I can't believe that I am more worried about this then the surgery itself!
