i eat chicken, fish, steamed vegetables, etc.
i think you can eat whatever you want (within reason) ... just watch your portions. just my opinion.0 -
When in doubt...follow the food guide.0

You can eat everything you want, but watch our portion and also make sure to have a plate includes fast carbs and slow carbs and protein. I read in a book that balancing with watching portion is the key and snacking between meals like not heavy snacks, but that puts your body in a fat burning mode and not fat storing mode.
In my case I try to balance my meals and everything i eat. for my snacks I get those special K cereal bars 90 calories and also thing granola bars with dark chocolate 80 calories and I sometimes eat very small piece of cake if I want to. I have lost weight I feel it and everyone around me see it. my fitness pal got almost everything and all plates so it will be easy for you to eat everything and put it in your diary. Good luck and lets keep in touch and feel free to add me on there0 -

I eat pretty much everything I did before just not quite as much. I have cut back on cheese and condiments but not really much else. I don't eat out very often and try to avoid eating too much processed foods. The latest food guide that my kids schools have been pushing is called My Plate. According to this guideline you should fill half of your plate with fruits and veggies, a quarter with meat/protein and the last quarter with your grains/starch (bread, rice, pasta, potatoes etc.)
I don't believe in dieting. I have made some small changes to my diet so that I am eating healthier but nothing drastic. The biggest changes for me have been portion sizes and realizing how many calories are in some of the foods I eat. I don't want to do anything that I can't maintain long term.0 -
Eat what you want but watch your portions. Lean meats, LOTS of veggies, fruit, protien powder, whole grains, etc.
I personally eat yogurt and fruit and granola almost every day at some point, some sort of salad with lots of green veggies or vegetable soup for lunch, a sensible portion controlled dinner and snacks of nuts along the way.0 -
I eat any thing I want, but weigh and measure it all (portion control). But for me, over the years, I have cut out a lot of "white" foods - no white rice, no white bread, no/little white flour, white potatoes, etc., and replaced those with healthier alternatives - brown rice, whole grain pasta, sweet potatoes, whole wheat flour, etc. etc.
I've also opened up my mind and palate and tried new veggies and found different ways to cook them. I only used to eat spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, and corn and now make wonderful dishes like leek soup, tomato basil soup, zucchini fries, seasoned asparagus, etc.
I guess to answer your question... anything you eat now, probably has a healthier alternative and you just have to be creative in preparing them. For example, I still have Pizza Hut pizza when I want it, but I also make a nice white pizza with low calorie alfredo sauce, grilled chicken, white cheddar cheese, feta cheese, fresh garlic, and spinach on a flatout bread. Much better for me and just as yummy to me. :flowerforyou:0 -
I know it can seem overwhelming when you want to make changes but don't quite know where to start.
Here's some suggestions:
- work on one meal at a time. Google "healthy breakfast recipes" for example and try a few things until you find somethat that makes you feel good.
- cooking your own meals (from ingredients not packets) is usually going to give you a healthier result than buying ready to eat meals. That's because you can see exactly what is going into the meal, and you are much less likely to fill up the calories with highly processed starches and sugars.
- in general, avoiding food that is highly processed tends to be healthier. That' means avoiding a lot of stuff that is labelled "diet" or "fat free" or "sugar free" or "healthy choice" and going for products that don't have too many unpronouncable things on the ingredients list.
- don't stress too much about it. Get you calories under control first, then work on looking at healthier options for one meal at a time.
- read anything you can find written by Michael Pollan. I think he makes a lot of sense!
Good luck!0 -
the way that i saw it was
cut your plate into thirds - one third complex carbs, one third lean meat, one third salads/veggies
protein should be lean, and about the size of your open palm.
complex carbs (wholegrain rice, pasta ect) should be the size of one cupped handful
Salads and vegggies should be 2 cupped handfuls (but i usually have as much as i want)
thats a basic plan, not saying its right or wrong, i have no references or website in case people want "scientific evidence".... blah blah blah... (you know THOSE people)
anyway, basic plan. i have dessert usually 2-3 times a wekk and a cheat meal every sunday. works for me0 -
In Oz we have a healthy eating pyramid, which is pretty good. You might want to google it. I am not sure if other countries have this sort of thing, probably, but it is pretty simple and clear. It shows what to eat lots of, some of, and a little of. Here is a website (one of MANY)

It all depends on what you eat already.
Sometime you don't need a great overhaul, just may be some portion control, watch your sodium intake, avoid processed foods, beware of stuff you might add to a dish without thinking, salt, sugar, oil. As you mentioned plenty of fruit and veg. I also think it's important to watch fat content as that can creep up.
Just take a look at what you already eat and think if you can find a healthier version but then have a little of what you fancy every so often so you don't go crazy. There isn't a hard-and-fast rule of what you should eat. Find people on here that have similar eating habits and open diaries, add them and spy on what they eat!0 -
chicken, chicken and chicken and if I get a bit peckish a bit of chicken and if I 'have' to go out to a restaurant I treat myself to a bit of chicken0

I don't follow a 'plan.' When there are rules, I feel the need to break them
I don't eat salad, ever! At most, some lightly dressed baby spinach (which I love!) My point is, there is no one way to eat to lose weight. Everybody has different tastes and should tailor their foods to reflect that. I stick to cooking as much of my own food as possible, eliminating most processed foods, filling my plate with more veggies, and adding healthy fats and whole grains, balanced with enough 'other' stuff that I dont feel deprived and go crazy.0
