overthinking dry measurements (protien)

OK, I may be over thinking this, but:

According to my protien powder label (doesn't matter which one), one serving is 33g and is one scoop.

However, when I look on the scoop, it shows 70cc.

When I look up conversion charts, 70cc is equivalent to 70ml which is also equal to 70g. Have I been drinking twice the protein that I've been expecting?

I have 3 different brands of protein powders, and each have given me a 70cc scooper, and all claim that one serving is anywhere between 30g and 33g. But that one scoop is this equivalent.

Someone bash my head with a rock or tell me where my logic dropped off.

    Hey! It has to do with density. 70 g = 70 ml of water. Protein powder is less dense, and therefore 70 ml weighs much less.

    You can only use the 1 mL = 1 g estimation when you are dealing with water, or near - water aqueous solutions.

    Apple juice --> probably
    Olive oil --> no
    Pudding -- > no

    ^^^exactly. 1cc = 1ml = 1g pertains only to H2O. Fill your scoop with molasses and it will weigh more than 70g. Fill it with cotton candy and it'll weigh less. Similarly, densely pack your protein powder in and you'll prob get 35-40g and lightly fill it and it will be less than 33g. Capish? :wink:

    Yeahhh! I'm digging it. Thanks for the reality check. It's like doing math with money, all of a sudden makes it easier. However math with food is confuzzling!

    :)

    Thank you ladies

    You know, a scale would make it even more easier.. I saw them for like $7 at WalMart last week. I use my scale whenever possible.
