So, hopefully the title got your attention.

Today for the first time I tried some light jogging on the treadmill. I've been building up to it for the last few weeks and today was J day. Due to my size I expected some 'bounce' however it came where I didn't expect it. My stomach and chest felt okay, but I could feel my backside bouncing. I was both amused and embarressed at the same time.

Any suggestions folks. Are their butt toning exercises I can try. Will wearing a pair of lycra shorts under my jogging bottoms do anything. Will strapping my derrier up like an Egyptian mummy bring the bouncing under control, or will I have to grin and bear it for as long as it takes and give those on the machines behind me a good giggle.

Some stats. Five ten, starting weight 350lbs, current weight 308lbs, though this was three weeks ago so hopefully I've broken through the 300lb barrier now

I wear compression shorts/underwear, but I'm not sure I've ever noticed my bum bouncing.

I can tell you absolutely fit people have some jiggle, not that I'm watching...really...nope...I'm just checking their technique.

Definitely lycra shorts. Saw a gal on the treadmill the other week who had such bounce it looked like it would throw her back out. Looked like it could hurt. There are definitely some of the circuit machines that are intended to tone the gluts. Keep it up - you are having great success!
  • Love your post and LOVE that you are starting to run!

I agree with compression shorts. As you run more, they will help keep your thighs from rubbing together also (OUCH!).

You could also get a treadmill in the back row. LOL... I'm kidddddddding!!!

    Kudos! :)

Keep running....compression shorts are great! You are much more self conscious about how you look than others. Keep going and good luck!

I sympathise, I totally need compression shorts but it's for the flab on my butt-shelf not my butt!
  • I had a status on facebook not long ago that said my butt wasn't jiggling as much when i run (i wear leggings) so i understand the shorts will help. keep a feel for the jiggle though you will notice when it goes down and it makes a great NSV!

find some Champion brand shorts, they are Lycra and you can wear them under your regular shorts! No one will know! Us girls can wear yoga pants and those seem to hold everything in place for me! As you get more fit you will notice it less after time goes by, but most people have something to hold things in...

I have saddle bags on the sides of my thighs and the compression shorts definitely help control the jiggle when I wiggle... Sometimes when I'm feeling particularly self conscious at karate, I'll even wear my old set of white Spanx under my uniform..
