No, not really going to go there again. I get tired of reading the same post all the time, too. BUT....my BMR is down to 1251 calories now according to MFP. I think for me the subject is a moot point anyway. So incredibly jealous of the folks with higher BMRs.....you know which side of the fence I am on this debate. :)

Here is a guide for setting weekly deficits, and on top of this when you workout you should eat those calories back. So if you are on 1200 cals and burn 300, you should eat 1500 for the day.

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.

Yep. I'm down to my last ten pounds or so. I actually am going to adjust although my deficit would never have me lose two pounds a week no matter what, due to my gender, age, height and activity level (desk job). Even at its most stringent settings, I'm only set to lose less than a pound per week. It's just kind of funny because I work with a guy who is probably 6'2" or so and he gets to eat so much more than me....and he rubs it in (jokingly, of course). He actually may be reading this post...I'll find out at work. This is more or less just my declaration that life isn't fair....but then again, who ever said it was?

At any rate, I'm looking forward to a great week.

can sympathise mine is about 1280, Personally i have read every post, watched my weight studied my cals and intake very very carefully, and unless i exercise about 200 cals extra a day and get net 1100-1200 i do not lose weight, using the cals i used from exercise as the deficit and if i work out extra i can eat a bit more, i am only 4ft 10 by the way. I have also cut back on carbs and increased protein, this has been working for the last 3-4 weeks but like anything a work in progess.

As you get smaller, there's not a lot you can do about your BMR, other than gaining some muscle which will get it a bit higher.

But there is something we can do about our TDEE which is the most important bit. As long as you stay under your TDEE you will lose weight.

With an active lifestyle even someone with a 1200 BMR has a TDEE of around 1800 calories so should lose weight nicely on 1500 cals per day.

Well done on getting so close to goal - keep it up you are doing great!

    +1

I'm not even sure why people are recommended diets based on BMR at all. BMR is just a component of TDEE, which is the important number for weight change or maintenance. A calorie burned for BMR isn't different than a calorie burned in exercise.
