How am I suppose to figure out how many calories I am suppose to eat when all these bmr calculators show a wide range when I put in the same information. anywhere from 1330-1497 Been doing 1250 accourding to MFP but loss seems to have stopped. From what I read I'm thinking of upping my calories but if I don't know where to start I may be adding to little or to many calories and that sure isn't going to help. :frown:

  • That BMR range is only up or down 167 calories. Just figure your BMR is somewhere in the middle of that range, like 1415. It's not really that big of a deal as long as you're in the ballpark. The important thing is, YOU HAVE BEEN EATING BELOW YOUR BMR, no matter what it is. Or do you mean that you set that as your NET goal? Your total calories in should never be less than your BMR so make sure that you consume at LEAST 1415 calories, ALWAYS (you should be eating more than this but if you exercise, your NET can end up being a little under your BMR). Then you figure out how much activity you do every day (TDEE), and try to make your total consumed calories fall somewhere between 1415 and that number every day. Whether you eat your exercise calories back is up to you at that point (I would eat back quite a few on very active days and not many on no-exercise days).

It doesn't have to be such an exact science. We are not machines. Just eat as clean as possible (for me, this includes avoiding as many grains and sugars as possible--a very important factor in weight loss!) and it should all fall into place.

Do you know your body fat percentage? I have read that the katch mccardle method of calculating bmr is more accurate. Good luck!!
