What kind of pedometers work best?

I'm looking for a good pedometer to purchase. Any ideas, styles, functions, and considerations I should know about? Unfortunately buying a smart phone with a crazy good app is not an option at this time :)

I absolutely LOVE my FitBit! It's amazing. It keeps track of your steps, distance, calories burned, stairs climbed, and activity level. It can also be worn at night to track your sleep quality and patterns, which I find really useful. It also integrates with MFP, which I really love.
  • Got my fitbit last week too...I'm in love with the thing. It definately makes you feel bad if you're not meeting your goals too! hahah! You should look into one if you're considering a pedometer. I did months of research before I landed on mine.

I have been using an Omron HJ-113 for a couple of years and it does the job for me. It's even survived a trip through the wash and still keeps accurate counts! It counts total steps, aerobic steps and minutes, calories and grams burned, and total mileage. I got mine for about $30 - I've spent more for pedometers that haven't held up as long.

Whichever pedometer you choose, be sure that it has a cover over the reset button or you could loose a ton of daily steps. Also, be sure it has a very sturdy clip (like a clothespin style) so it doesn't pop off your waist. Good luck!
  • My wife uses an Omron HJ - 7201 TC. It is programmable to a persons stride by measuring ten steps and following the directions to program it. It holds 30 days of information and with the disc it comes with a program can be installed on your computer and when it fills up, download it to the program and it will track progress for years. It resets the days events at midnight and is ready then for the next walking event. In each event, it records number of steps, aerobic steps this equates to, mileage and time spent walking. She loves it and it was less than $30 on Amazon a few months ago.

You all are soooo helpful. THanks...
Guess it's time to hit the internet to research the Fitbit and the Omron HJ - 7201 TC.
    Thanks for the advice!
