the other day I went for a walk wearing my running hat, and i was like omg what smells like cat pee. I checked myself. Normal smell. I checked my shoes for dog poo. Nothing. Then I smelled my hat. OMG it stinks. I know for a fact that my cat couldn't have peed on it cause i always put my hat back on the hat stand.

So does anyone know how to get the smell out. I've hand washed it, but I can still smell it.

In the mean time I'm using another hat (that I went out and bought).

This is weird... but I heard that soaking things that smell like either urine or B.O. (it's one of them, might be both?) with vodka in the water actually helps to eliminate the smell.

I'd say I "know" that it works but I have no sense of smell, so the person that makes sure that one of the cats didn't hose down something of mine has say over me in topics of stink. :laugh:

try vinigar.... supposed to get smells out of laundry, should work for your hat.

If vinegar doesn't work, try baking soda. Rub a paste of equal parts baking soda dish detergent and water into the fabric of the hat. Let dry, then launder as normal.

If hat still smells, get another hat.

The only thing that has worked for me in the past is getting it dry cleaned. I had to do this with my winter jacket a few years ago. Hopefully you can find a home remedy that is less expensive though!
