A few months ago my gym did free classes to become a trainer, and some of these "trainers" have been hired... So, for lack of a better term - Now we have a whole bunch of fat, out of shape people walking around saying that they are trainers and giving classes!!! I'm sorry, but if I'm thinner than you, and have more muscle tone - You should not be able to call yourself a trainer! JMHO

The gym will get the "Trainers" friends as clients. The gym probably only pays them when they are "training" someone. Sort of commissioned sales.

yes, I have had that expereince too. Funny, I usually prefer my fitness trainers to be fit.
  • I want to ask one of them for help with the kettlebell, but I'm scared they will hurt me. I mean, how much can you possibly learn in 4 classes????

Do not seek advice from those people!! 4 classes to become a fitness trainer, who are they kidding? Maybe they can show you how to set up the speed on a treadmill, but certainly not how to use a kettlebell safely. It's almost like making fun of personal trainers, and it just shows how much the gym cares about your safety and your results...

LOL. I was talking to my husband about this. We have a person at our gym who teaches classes. She seems very knowledgeable about technique. However, she is a good 30 pounds overweight. The one class I take with her, is called powerflex which is basically weight training. she shows up how to do the exercise and then stops and watches us do it. Everytime makes an excuse why she can't do it. I've taken this class a lot and every other teacher goes through all the exercises with us. She is a great person, but isn't very inspirational or a good example in the class.
