Thyroid, not sure where to post this

My mom has hypothyroidism. I was at the doctors a while back and she said my thyroid just seemed a bit big, so I had an ultrasound done and the only thing they said was that my thyroid did not appear smooth on the ultrasound but that everything was fine. I thought I could just look it up but I don't really get good information. Anybody know what not having a smooth thyroid means?

I have a long history of thyroid issues for nodules to cysts to surgery, needle biopsies etc....any questions let me know
probably what they mean by NOT smooth...
