Thinking of getting HRM

Hey everyone! I have read that a lot of you have the polar ft4 HRM and are very happy with it. If I purchase this HRM can I use it for walking, my zumba class, and the JM 30 Day Shred Dvd? I read I cannot use it for bike riding (not quite sure why). What are your opinions on this HRM or is there any others you recommend? Thank you!

P.s. can I use the ft4 with the android app endomondo?

Why can't you use it for bike riding? Heart still beating while riding. Iv'e even worn it just "around" for a day so I could get an idea of a regular day burn. Works amazing!
  • I am thinking of getting one as well!

    bump for later!
  • I dont see why you couldnt use it for anything that gets your heart rate up. Bike riders need to use a conductive gel to keep the connectors from getting dry and a shirt that wont generate a lot of static. I have a ft4 and love it!

I have the Polar FT60 with GPS and I like it so far! I use to have the Garmin 405cx with GPS and my battery died after having it for less than a year. The replacement battery was almost as much as the GPS cost! I like that Polar HRM's take a replaceable battery! You should still be able to use your HRM while biking. I am going to use my FT60 tomorrow on my bike ride but I'll turn the GPS off and use a free phone app that I have to track my mileage!

If the HRM has a GPS and no "bike mode" and if you go for a bike ride than the HRM will think that you're running 17mph instead of biking. Maybe that's where the confusion is? I just turn the GPS mode off on bike rides but still use the HRM.

Thanks everyone! I think I am going to get the polar ft4 since that is the one I am seeing the most positive reviews for. I look forward to really see how many calories I am burning! Can you use the polar ft4 to track daily calorie burn too?

I have a Polar HRM... the f60 with the GPS thing... (haven't ever actually used the GPS piece, maybe this summer...) \

Anyway... I love it. It stopped working for a couple of days and I was very sad! I use it for everything that is purposeful exercise - including the bikes at the gym, the elliptical, walking, Zumba class, swimming! I love knowing that it's more set to me specifically... though, it tries to give me goals each week and keeps insisting that I take a rest week. Oh well! Ha!

Never, never, ever, never... have I regretted the purchase! It's worth it... get it... you will love it!
