Slaves to the Scales

For some people and I know I am one its all about the numbers and I am a slave to the scales. I weigh most mornings before I showers and I am only truly content when I see 125lb which is my maintenance weight. Now in any given week I can go up and back down sometimes as much as 5lbs, now I know deep down I don't look any different my clothes still feel the same so why oh why is the bloody number so important!!

Is anyone else a slave to the scales???

I suppose to some extent we all are as it's one of the key ways to determine our success and failure whilst heading towards our goal (and let's face it, it's much easier than unravelling the tape-measure and trying to determine the right place to wrap it!). The unfortunate thing with the scales is that they very rarely stay at a steady number for a myriad of reasons...the thing is, we all know that when it suddenly peaks that it's actually not fat and it's water/hormones/sore muscles/digesting food.

I think that one of the absolute key things to remember is that it takes 3500 calories to gain just one pound of body fat. This has to be on top of your maintenance and all your exercise calories, so chances are that if you are eating in a deficit the majority of the time there is barely any chance you will gain 'fat weight'.

I started to realise through weight loss that daily or even every other day 'weigh-ins' were doing me no good and that they'd end up affecting how I felt about myself. Plus if I got the scales and saw anything but a loss I would then step on the scales every morning until the desired loss had been met.

There's an NHS phone app I use purely for it's 'weigh-in' reminders, it's called the BMI Tracker and I have it set to remind me in a month's time to weigh myself. I'm trying to stay off the scales until then! (I doubt I'll wait that long to be honest but I'm trying!). Before that I had it set to weigh weekly. It can be a good way of disciplining yourself!

Also, I did for quite a lot of my weight loss was weigh in only when I felt 'light' so I'd never get on the scales if I felt bloated or it was TOM or anything like that.

The other alternative is to get a family member to hide the scales until a specified day?

You're doing fab though chick so don't listen to those scales too often! xxxxxxxxxxxx
