i currently have a polar ft4 hrm, which is a great starting out hrm. However it now no longer suits my needs. I need a gps hrm (as I'm now doing a lot of running, and I hate having to carry my phone with me all the time).

So can someone recommend a HRM that has gps function.

does polar even have a hrm with gps?

I know garmin do, but whats the base model? (so I can do some googling).

Oh and if you are in aust, and are interested in a hrm, pm me.

I think polar has a "pod" for adding gps capability but only some of their HRMs are compatabile with it (it'll say in the description). The pods vary if you want it for your bike or running I believe. So if you want to stick with polar I *think* you'd have to get an upgraded HRM plus a gps pod. I don't know what the base model is for garmins. Just go on their website? It should explain the different levels of monitors (and then I usually buy from amazon).

Garmin Forerunner (you can use them as a HRM indoors). There are a variety of models depending on your taste & budget. I recently switched to the 610 - love the touch screen & smaller form factor.

Garmin has great software too for logging your runs.

(I still carry a cell when I'm running - just a cheapie that doesn't even have a sim card - you never when an emergency may arise)

I have been looking at polar, but I don't like hte idea of having a pod attached to my arm.

I rather having something that is in the watch, so this is why I'm leaning towards to garmin. atm I'm looking at the forerunner210.
Cost is also another factor, as well my budget is limited.

The Polar GPS pod will fit in the key pocket of your running shorts. It is about the size of a square back of gum That's what I do.

Just bear in mind your phone also functions as a security device.... I wouldn't want to be five or six miles from home, all alone, in the middle of nowhere, and not have my phone with me.

i tired the mapmyrun app... and it totally failed, said I ran 100m.... I know for a fact that it was at least 9km.

yes I do like the idea of having the phone as my security, but I don't like wearing it long distances around my waist in my spibelt

    decisions decisions.
