I just recently got back into a size 8 pants. I also was a size 8 in high school. But there is absolutely no way it is the same. I was smaller then, than I am now, smaller waist and no fat on my stomach like I still have now. I was as active then as I am now. I ran track in high school and lifted weights. I run now and lift weights.

So, did you all experience the same thing? Your old sizes don't quite match up to present day sizes? This was back in 1985 by the way.

    Vanity Sizing, maybe?

Putting a smaller number on larger clothes so that people feel better about what "size" they wear.

I have a few pairs of pants that were stored away from around 2000, those sizes definitely are smaller than what is in the store labelled the same size. It will feel even better when I get into those size 12s. I suspect they are closer to current 8-10s.

Jean sizes are bound to have changed since then... hell they change so much from brand to brand, then throw 2 decades in the mix.... then you account for where at the waist/hips jeans sit now compared to then....

Sure clothing sizes have changed. I think if you go to Chico's you would probably be a 0  Even if I got back down to my high school weight I'd still wouldn't match that body anymore since I am lumpy in all different places. Plus, I think for me I would have a hard time mentally seeing myself as thin as I was even if the scale said it.

(I keep thinking about that radio advertisement for 'High School Skinny' diet drinks, lol.)

    Were you a junior's 8 and now a misses 8??

At 5'8.5, I'm a size 12. In high school I was about a size 10-12.. but wore juniors.
2 nights ago I was looking for shorts and tried on a size 13 juniors which were too big in the waist but tight on my thighs. Of course shorts have changed (are they even shorts?? there is no leg part, they're so short!) since then but I could probably wear an 11 in juniors if my thighs weren't so yummylicious.

You know, I probably was a junior size 8 then. I hadn't thought of that. I do shop in the misses department now.

So if I was a size 6 in 1985 and I get back to the weight I was then as I plan, what size would be equivalent nowadays? I've looked for a historical comparison chart and can't find one.
