This made me re-evaluate my goal weight! I'm doing this for health, not looks...
I've dropped from 45.7 to 35.7 since I started MFP, what's another 10!
"Dr. Nirav Shah, the current New York state health commissioner, suggest lowering the BMI definition of obesity from 30 to 24 in women and down to 28 in males. Under these suggested guidelines, a woman who is 5’ 6†and 150 pounds would be considered obese. Under the current BMI standards, the same woman would be considered healthy."

Here's the full study
Shah, N et al. Measuring Adiposity in Patients: The Utility of Body Mass Index (BMI), Percent Body Fat, and Leptin
http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0033308
It is interesting, but most people shouldn't be using BMI at the individual level anyways, they should already be tracking bodyfat0 -

This seems like a much better explanation than the article I posted was! Thank you!
Checking out my body fat percentage from now on!0 -
Agreed that bodyfat is a much better route for tracking.
A given height and weight can look totally different. The 160 pounds I was 2 years ago was a lot fatter and unhealthy compared to the 165 pounds I am now. But if you looked at my BMI, you'd think I wasn't making progress.0 -
This was a great read! Thanks for the post!0

Just calculated my body fat percentage and realized when I started my measurements were Neck: 14/Waist: 49/Hips: 54 giving me a body fat percentage of 65.4% according to the online calculator...Currently my measurements are Neck:135.5/Waist: 38.5/Hips: 47.5 giving me a current body fat percentage of 42.9%! That's a huge accomplishment for me but it also makes me realize that I have a long way to go to get to my goal! From now on I will worry less about the scale and MORE about body fat percentage! If we're not doing this to be healthy and improve the quality of our lives, why are we doing it!0
