Is the tea sweetened? If it is then the added sugar/artificial sweetener might inhibit your progress. If not then there's no issues with it. Tea is very healthy and filled with antioxidants.
  • yeah i put 1 sugar in, will it help if i stop that?

    Thanks for your help

I don't think 1 sugar will hinder you. I say try it without and if you don't like it then keep the 1 sugar. Sugar free tea takes some getting used to drinking!

It depends. Eash teaspoonful of sugar is 17 calories, and every dose of sugar causes your body to release insulin to handle it. If you have 10 cups in a day, that would be 170 sugar calories. And the constant sugar might cause an overgrowth of yeast in your body. Could you cut the sugar to a half teaspoon, and eventually get to none? Or have plain water sometimes? The constant stream of sugar can make you crave more, too.

1 sugar once or twice a day won't make too much difference, but 20 spoonfuls of sugar each day is going to have a major effect on weight loss, so it depends on how many cups of tea you really are drinking....

I'd try to wean yourself off the sugar if you can - otherwise swap to sweeteners which at least are calorie free

I drink a LOT of tea. It used to be sweetened tea, then I realised that it was wasted calories. (I am not a huge fan of liquid calories), so it was one of the small changes I made last month. No more sweetened tea. To be honest, the first few days were kinda gross. Now though its great, I make it at home, drink it when I go out, guilt free!

We usually drink 3 to 4 cups of tea a day. I've been drinking tea since I was a toddler pretty much. My parents got me onto tea before I could remember and it's always been unsweetened and I love the taste. It's refreshing. I've tried sweetened tea before, but I just don't like it. It tastes too sweet even though I enjoy carbonated drinks every once in a while, it doesn't taste as sweet as sweet tea lol.

Just try it without sugar's or sweeteners and see how it is. It really doesn't taste bad. I can't understand how anyone can have sweetened tea lol.

Try Earl Grey tea - it's naturally a little sweeter than normal tea, because of the bergamot :)
  • thank you for all your help :) i put less sugar in my tea this morning, kind of strange but it will be worth it in the end

Switching to sweeteners felt like the worst thing in the world at first, but I'm kind of getting used to it now. No it's not the same as my good ol' two sugars a cup, but it's still a cup of tea!
  • I used to drink tea very sweet, then one day my roommate back in university convinced me to drink tea without any sugar. It took me a week or so to get used to it and now I hate sugar in tea or coffee. If you drink too much tea, then all those "1 sugar cubes" can mean something bad for your daily intake of sugar and calories. My husband is a huge tea-lover and since he started to drink it without sugar, he lost 2-3 lbs, it may also work for you.
  • My main concern would be dehydration. If you aren't drinking herbal tea (and are drinking caffeinated tea), it can SEVERELY dehydrate you. I had that issue for a while with drinking black tea, not realizing it would be an issue. Ended up getting sick, and lectured by my doctor... dun dun dun...

Could you try transitioning with something like white tea with pomegranate? Those kinds of flavored teas might help you wean yourself off the sugar.
