Chicken weight?

Are you supposed to weigh the chicken before or after cooking? I had 4 oz of chicken before cooking and weighed it after and it was only 2.5 oz. What do I count this as?

    Always weigh things in its raw form.

    When you see references to weight when looking at portion sizes, it means cooked weight - not raw. But how do you know how much to buy/cook in order to have the desired portion size? Four ounces of raw meat/fish/poultry will yield approximately three ounces, when cooked. Eight ounces raw will yield approximately six ounces, and so forth. It's a good idea to weigh again after cooking, but I don't always. If I buy an eight-ounces fish fillet for example, I call it two three-ounce portions.

    This is from weight watchers...i think they know what they are doing lol...hmmm...maybe not lol!

    Nutrtional information is always posted in a raw state (unless specified) due to different preparation, cooking techniques and times.

    If it's a breast on it's own I usually weigh it before cooking and go from there really. Even if it comes out as more calories than it's supposed to be, I tend to be more careful at the end of the day when this happens.

    If the chicken has already been cooked, and it's like a whole chicken. I will only have the breast and weigh the pieces I am having. I try to get around 100g to 200g of it.

    Why would you weigh it before cooking it? You aren't eating 4 ounces if that's what it weighs raw, you are eating whatever it weighs once it's cooked. You need to weigh what you are actually eating.

    Thanks! I will use the pre-cooked weight to be on the safe side. It's just not something I ever thought of!

    Why would you weigh it before cooking it? You aren't eating 4 ounces if that's what it weighs raw, you are eating whatever it weighs once it's cooked. You need to weigh what you are actually eating.

    The only thing lost during cooking is water. You don't lose any of the meat when cooking. That's why you weight it before hand. Weighing it after you cook it, but entering it in MFP as raw would be under counting the calories.
