Beer

I drink beer almost every day. I just make sure the beers I choose are delicious, flavourful, and worth the calories. I drink fewer because I'm really drinking to taste the beer and enjoy it, not get drunk. If you love beer, don't cut it out completely, because eventually you'll have built up resentment and all kinds of other crazy psycho feelings about it, and you'll binge or give up on your fitness completely. (IMO)
pretty much this, exactly (except i mix it up, beer or wine, depending on the mood)
cheers, MissK!0 -
I don't cut back, and I don't drink anything with the word "light" of "lite" on the label. My "average" week has me drinking around 15 beers. Always on Wednesday night, usually a couple on Thursday, then the rest are on Fri, Sat, Sun. I do exercise every day. EVERY DAY. Sometimes its only a 15 minute walk and 100 push ups, but more often it's a 30 minute run, or my M-W-F boxing class. I will cut back on my snacks, and I've eliminated most of the sweets from my diet, but I'm gonna enjoy my beer.
Cheers! :drinker:0 -
I love a good pale ale but since I have been loosing weight I switched to light basic beer... sometimes I DR it up into a chelada or I drink a good vodka and soda water with a lemon or lime or red wine and I have about 1 a night to relax during or after a nice hot bath0

i love beer too. especiall fresh beer. when i go out i'll have one or two. at home i'll buy yuengling light or drink wine. SOMETIMES mixed drinks with tropicana 50 for the mix.0

Stop drinking so called 'light beers'. Sure, they have lower calories but are so full of adjunct crap it does more harm to your system than if you were to drink a good craft beer.
Bud Light has almost 1200 ingredients in it, mostly fillers, preservatives, and colors.
I average about a beer a day and I still lose. I stick with beer that is local or I know has less than 5 ingredients.
Paulaner Hefeweizen is one of my go to beers. Also, any good craft IPA has a high concentration of selenium which is good for you!0 -
I consider alcohol to be an important part of my diet for heart health reasons. I have one or two per day and rarely more than that. I only drink actual beers. I don't think the light stuff is palatable. I just count it as calories like I would any other food.0

Four beers? That may be bordering on binge drinking by medical definition, not moderation. Even with each beer being a 12 oz Miller Lite that's over 400 calories and good for ~20% of ones daily intake. If it's a New Belgium Dig pale ale that's ~720 calories! But I don't think it's possible/practical to quit drinking entirely unless you're an alcoholic (please understand I'm NOT implying that you are--you here is in the most generic of terms because there are alcoholics that NEED/ED to quit).
The secret to success on MFP I think is all things in moderation, except honesty in reporting ALL calories to the app. That said...if your goal is to chill after work, my choice is a spirit mixed with a calorie free "juice" (Crystal light and Jeramiah Weed) or Coke Zero (Smirnoff vanilla vodka) on an empty stomach. For 2 oz (1/4 cup) you're looking at 120-150 calories or go back for a second shorty refill (w 1 oz or 1/8th cup) for a decent buzz and still only around 200 calories. Scan the bottle to know for sure. Best bang for the caloric buck in my opinion. Safe on the stomach? I don't know...but I'm not giving up booze and a little toxin in the body I believe helps make it stronger.0 -
I clued in to how many calories I was consuming when I drank beer. That did it for me. I now drink ice tea or water.
The other thing I do is add extra exercise calories to let me enjoy a cold beer when I want too. I try to work out 4 times a week. But i will put in an extra work out or an extra long walk with our dog to get 100-200 calories. Sometimes I enjoy a couple of beers and sometimes I enjoy some food I don't normally eat.
I do it all in moderation now. If beer can motivate you to exercise more, use it.0 -

Dude, right on! A friend of mine calls that "earning beer credits!" 15 minutes of elliptical or walking up and down stairs at home would be free way to earn another guilt free beer. House cleaning is cardio (look it up!) so vacuum the carpet and dust the blinds and you've earned half a beer. Love it!0 -

Indeed, but clearly you are not well versed in British drinking culture.0 -
When I'm craving a beer I have the MIller 64. It is far more tolerable than the Bud 55, IMO. Miller 64 actually tastes like beer. Although, let's not be fooled, it still isn't as delicious as a nice dark Guiness or even a Bud Heavy, so don't expect it to be. My beer alternative is vodka and club soda. I carry single serve packets of Crystal Light in my purse so that I can flavor the drink anyway I want. Vodka is 60-80 calories per ounce, club soda is 0 and Crystal Light is 5. I'm a drinker, so this is something I've put quite a bit of thought in to, LOL!0

I just started this MFP, but thanks for posting, it's good to see that I don't have to give up delicious beer completely. My BF brews, so we have beer on tap in our house. Shortly after moving into the house with him I started drinking my beer from smaller glasses as opposed to the big pint glasses. Helps me moderate, also means I have to climb a flight of stairs every time I want a refill from the kegerator. I do also enjoy scotch, which helps as a lower calorie alternative.0

Isn't that redundant and an oxymoron at the same time? I'm Irish and German..."it's noon somewhere" is a phrase I don't mutter because if I'm awake, it's an appropriate time for a drink if I want it. BTW, my profile pic there is my wife and I at New Belgium's Fort Collins brewery...I was pretty well lit. And we hit O'Dell's tour after that and a brew-pub for dinner afterwards. A weekend without kids was put to good use!0 -

My dad got to the point where he realised he was drinking too much for too many nights (like 6 cans a night sometimes) and while he's skinny as a rail, he drives around for his job so he didn't want alcohol in his system the next day, so he literally halved his consumption by mixing the beer with diet lemonade, so he'd be drinking for the same amount of time (and watching his TV), but he was drinking half the booze. He's kept up with it pretty well so I assume it didn't affect his buzz.
It's a good way to halve the calories too definitely.0 -
I know this probably isn't the best choice but I love Crispin Cider beer. It is so yummy. I don't drink a lot but when I'm out and if they have it I will drink it.

I always drink Kettle one lemon flavored Vodka with Club Soda on ICE....GREAT Low cal drink for the summer time
That sounds delish! I'll have to try it!
I'm a total beer snob. I haven't changed it one bit. I still have several on the weekends (and sometimes a few during the week) - I've just upped my physical activity to compensate - and drink LOTS of water!

It's all about moderation. Hell, work out harder to fit in a beer if you want one. If you strip yourself of the things you like entirely, you will not stick with the program for a long time.0

Did you got to Coopersmiths? Because their chili beer is really freaking awesome.0 -

I'll have a beer or two but it has to be at my favorite place. I'll workout a little extra so I can have it. I like some of the richer stuff but according to this link, most common beers don't reach 200 calories for a 12 ounce serving. http://www.beer100.com/beercalories.htm0

Mich Ultra--1 or 2 when I go out. 90 cals each.0
-
I drink Michelob Ultra and just count it along with the rest of my calories.0
-
vodka whisky and rum have way more calories than beer I stick to Stella0
-
I would rather have a nice dark porter and be limited than try to drink the domestic or light beers. I just exercise like crazy to afford the calories.0
-
Now I can feel you on the Beer Drinking...use to be me...no alternative....just treat your self on holidays or outing.... I dont have one everyone month but when i do.. I just add it to my diary!0
-
I drink water with a shot of vodka when I go out. Sometimes with lemon...sometimes I shake it up and put lime in it....lol When I feel really wild I will have a Vodka Cranberry...
However, it is all about moderation. If you want a beer or two on your Friday night then make room for it by exercising more, or eating less calories the day before. It will all balance out.0 -

I would LOVE to tour O'Dells...90 shilling is da bomb. Bells is on my list too. I cried when I found out a bottle of Hopslam was 300 effing calories!

I'm a huge stout fan, but had to give it up because I was drinking too many calories. So, if I drink, I usually drink vodka and diet coke.0

start slowly. switch to light beer and drink 3 instead of 4. somewhere in between the first and the last beer drink a large glass of water so it helps fill up instead of getting full off of beer. then make it 2 beers and 2 waters etc. You would have to find the perfect balance for you. trial and error my friend but you can do it. maybe just switch to light beer and keep your routine.0
