Knee/quad injury question

I have a question for anyone that knows anything about sports injuries of the knee area. My knee has been hurting a little and I have been having these fluttering spasms in my musicle/tendon above the kneecap and go up into the quadricep toward the inside of my leg. I can't see any brusing or swelling, but it hurts to walk on a bit and the muscle spasms happen VERY frequently and I had a hard time sleeping last night beause of them. I've tried streching, but the area is toward the inside of my leg, so a quad strech doesn't really get it. The spasms have been going on for about a week but after Zumba yesterday, the pain seems worse. Should I let it rest a few days or should I just go get checked out by a Dr to be safe? I'd prefer to avoid that if possible.
