Lack of Food Knowledge -rant/story

I have learned so much about food and what's good for you, what seems good to you and really isn't, and then what's terrible for you. Like most people I've had to wade thru so much misinformation trying to find the truth. A lack of information seems to be a rampant problem with people I run into or even amongst my friends and family. Most of the time I tend to keep my mouth shut because in the past when I tried to explain things to somebody they got angry and would tell me I was wrong. Yeah, okay I'm wrong - I've lost almost 80lbs thru changing my eating habits and exercise but I have no clue what I'm talking about.
So I have a friend who for the better part of the past 12 yrs has been that girl you wanna hate because she can eat whatever she wants, whenever she wants, never works out and doesn't gain a pound. Well in the last year that has started to change, she's put on almost 20 lbs from eating fast food, junky stuff, drinking tons of soda and just sitting around. Now, I have to admit if I ate like her I would have put on a heck of a lot more than 20 lbs but the point is that her body is finally reacting to her lifestyle choices. She doesn't really seem to care and keeps squeezing herself into clothes that are way too small and thinks she looks sexy. She could look sexy if she was wearing clothes that fit because even with the 20 lb gain she doesn't look terrible, just heavier.
So last night I stopped by her house after work and she offers me some string cheese. I turned it down since I was on my home for dinner and as much as I love cheese I didn't really want any at the time. Then she starts lecturing me about how great string cheese is for you and how it totally helps tighten your stomach muscles and will completely flatten your stomach out. :noway:
Now, I know dairy is good for you and I've done my reading about how adding low fat dairy to your diet can help you lose weight and is in general good for you, but only up to a point and let's face it with the oil in cheese you really have to pay attention to serving size as you need to with any food, you really can have too much of a good thing.
I couldn't help myself, I started to try to explain to her that yes, dairy is good for you but string cheese alone isn't going to give you a flat stomach, especially if you follow it up with a huge meal full of grease and empty carbs. But she was not to be told other wise, and as our conversation was wrapping up she proceeded to eat her third stick of string cheese while she started making dinner (snacking on the ingredients as she put everything together). :explode:
Please, please tell me you've been thru something similar since you started your journey. Things like this are why I tried not to mention my lifestyle changes to people outside my immediate circle and why I honestly don't bother trying to tell people how I have gotten healthier (not just thinner). If they want a fast fix, they've come to the wrong person for advice.
Thanks for reading my rant :flowerforyou:
